We've just signed a winger, the Ronnie reckons Jose (edit Jonas) is staying; we will not stump up 9 mill or more for N'Zog our priorities now lie elsewhere - like a striker.

We need 2 quality strikers - been the same story for some years now.

It seems pretty clear that we have a policy of trying to spend as least we can on transfer fees. We need another 2 strikers and they aren't likely to come for nowt (has Elmander signed a new contract?). I can't see us spending 9 million on N'Zog with a 5 year contract at say 50k a week. Don't see Ashley thinking that's good value. He's playing a high risk hand; we could be shit or very exciting. Must keep hold of Barton and Colo though.

I can't see Long being anywhere near good enough. He's neither nowt nor something - canny player with no single exceptional attribute. We have to aim higher if we can.

On balance and if Nolan wanted a 4 or 5 year contract I think the club had to sell. Nolan could have stayed but once a bid was made and he wanted the longer contract it was always going to end up with him going. It's not easy to swallow but I agree with the stance the club has taken. Bottom line for me is that if Nolan loved it so much here he would still be here. He's chosen to secure his future; good luck to him and thanks for the goals and chicken dance.

So long as we got contract conditions right and don't pay stupid wages there is no risk. If we give a 5 year contract at say 55k a week to be paid up if his knee goes bang then there is plenty of risk. I'm pretty sure the any contract would give us protection.
