It’s really not difficult, he’s a wide player who scores goals because that’s what he does. He just knows where he should be and he’s a natural finisher. I’d prefer him on the left but if he’s allowed to drift from the right and follow his instincts, so be it. The boy scores goals, it’s the hardest thing to do, he should be one of the 1st names on the sheet. I’d add that I don’t think he could ever fill in even as a make shift CF; he doesn’t have the presence to do that. He knows what he’s good at.

There was a ball put in behind him on the Milburn side near the dugouts where his body couldn’t even allow him to attempt to run back. He’s been fantastic for us but that was an absolute fuck me moment.

Put simply, Gordon doesn’t score either of those goals and we’d have lost or drawn at best. Gordon doesn’t use his pace once he gets the ball, it’s infuriating. He’ll sprint to get the ball and immediately slow down as his first preference is to turn inside. Of the 2 I’d have Barnes every time. He scores goals, he loves scoring goals, he’s not afraid to score goals.

Been told Tripps would be open to a move to Saudi for a couple of years and if he could, a return to Burnley to end his career. I’m genuinely baffled how any “attacking” player can be so poor at shooting. Big Jo is shocking and got moved, Gordon is actually worse. It’s not even non league level of shooting, you can’t be missing the target 7/8 times out of 10. At a minimum you have to be at least getting a majority on target. I played left wing and then centre forward at an ok level but put me in the box with half a chance and there’d be a good chance I’d score and an even better chance I’d get a shot on target. The level you can play at becomes a bit irrelevant when it comes to finishing, you can either finish or you can’t. IMO Gordon simply can’t and he can’t deliver chances on a regular basis because he doesn’t have the nous to know what it looks like. Shearer was amongst the best crosser into the area and picker of the best pass into the box purely because he knew what he’d want. It really grates on me when I see a player like Barnes playing 2nd fiddle to a player like Gordon. I’ve been Gordon bashing for a few games, I don’t want to but, I firmly believe that we’d have more points if Barnes had been starting.
