  1. My wife overheard a conversation outside a social club in Blackpool when we were there recently. Group of ageing mackem 'ladies got asked if they were from Newcastle. "Nah! We're not Geordies. My man won't even watch them arseholes Ant n Dec on the tele". ?.
  2. Just a thought at the moment as probably won't find anybody else up for it. Stag do in Belfast next month and Glentoran are at home in the cup quarter final. Seems handy for the city centre and cheap to get in (£13 league price). Anyone experienced any NI domestic stuff? Can you drink on the concourse? All the important questions need answering ☺.
  3. Oh aye, of course we have. There were major child abuse allegations towards certain Teeside doctors during the mid 80s. On one of my 1st visits to Ayresome Park I can remember Nik Kershaws hit "I won't let the sun go down on me" being adapted to "I won't let me dad go down on me"
  4. Usually love an underdog and hate Chelsea but can't have the smoggies getting anywhere near winning owt before we do.
  5. Had a drive down to Chester or Street Utd for the Blue Star game this afternoon. Club had said it would be on but arrived at 2.25 to see glum faced Blue Star players leaving. Tgeyvreckon the ref stuck his key in the pitch then called it off. If anything conditions had improved by the ridiculous late timing of his decision. Not the other end of the earth but still 30 miles worth of petrol wasted for me, not to mention my time.
  6. Aye, heard that on Monday. This lot have FTM on everything man. I've seen bucket hats probably produced by the club with it on. Where's the respect in that?
  7. Got to admit I was a nervous wreck until our pen. Yes I know, different leagues and all that but we've seen us fail to turn up against lower league sides so often over the years and even at 2 up I'm thinking they get one back, crowd get a lift and who knows? We've been good at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory this season. Suppose I'm just an NUFC pessimist but many decades have made me that way. Couldn't have went any better as it turned out. We were stronger, cleverer. Were knicking the ball from the off. We really put them in their place and showed them how far behind us they are. I'd be happy to never play them again and let this hang over them. I keep thinking I don't care as much as I once did but it was as if life depended on it on Saturday.
  8. Aberdeen 0 St Mirren 3 yesterday. In the St Mirren end which was one of the coldest I've ever experienced. Open ended away section with rain being blown in from the North sea across the road by strong winds. 1st time at Pittodrie but it's a good old school ground, sadly soon to be replaced. St Mirren are poor away but wins at Aberdeen are very rare so I struck lucky. Semi jokingly said "fancy a night in Aberdeen" to the wife and to my amazement she said aye. All went smoothly. Trains ran etc after much uncertainty midweek. Half a dozen pints around Aberdeen last night but had to run between bars to try and minimise the impact of the incessant rain.
  9. We do have a habit of beating the best but losing to the rest. It's a tough ask on NYD though. Here's hoping anyway.
  10. Nowt against him. No lack of effort in his time here but without looking up his stats and taking away his penalties I can barely remember him scoring 3 goals in black & white.
  11. I would say we have to accept these are major factors in making it harder to win football matches at least.
  12. Takes me back to my 1st ever game that pic. The same 2 teams involving the same 2 players but a few years later (76). Old Leazes, soon to be demolished. Billy Bonds played. Mervyn Day in goal for WHU. Think the 1st football song I heard live was "Mervyn Day is a p**f." so changed days indeed. We won 2-1 with Supermac and Tommy Craig getting the goals. That vivid green turf was an awesome sight as it appeared in front of my eyes for the 1st time. Happy days.
  13. Was at the Blue Star game away v Yarm & Eaglescliffe yesterday. Played at Billingham Towns' ground, Blue Star went 3-0 up before Y & E pulled one back with about 20 mins left. I had to be at a doo last night so left 10 mins from the end to catch an earlier train. After hearing what sounded like muffled cheers i checked my phone and it was 3 each. Incredibly Y & E won it 4-3. A sickener for the Star at the end of a very difficult week. What a game though.
  14. If I remember rightly the boxing day game is listed as a 7.30 KO too. Best check nearer the time though. Edit to say NL web site has it as 3pm and Blue Star site says 7.30. Be more inclined to trust NL site tbh.
  15. Turned up in his lorry delivering some stuff into my work a couple of year back. Was telling me he was watching South Shields a lot. Heard he hails from there.
  16. Who was the new stadium announcer v Arsenal and why? Sounded like Steve of Metro radios' breakfast show, Steve and Karen.
  17. Big Scottish Cup 2nd round tie currently on BBC Scotland for anyone who's really desperate. Musselburgh v Clyde (sky 187). Don't all desert the forum at once mind.
  18. Hope you get to Dunston one day. It's a good little club. Very homely and welcoming. Used to get to a few games there myself before the resurrection of Blue Star. Was quite torn for a while. Enjoyed going to Dunston then Blue Star came back and is only a little over a mile down the road from me. Almost felt obliged to follow my local club and it's taken a while but my enthusiasm is growing. I've a mate in Worksop btw, not a million miles from you. He's mad keen. Follows them everywhere. Off to Stockport next Sat in the FA cup 1st round so a big day for them.

Good that. Got it about 2 thirds of the way through. She commended the staff and I must agree. When I visited as part of my 'doing the 92' mission, I asked someone where I could buy tickets. Turned out to be the club liason officer and he took me inside the ground and gave me a mini tour and loads of info. Nice touch and I have fond memories from the place.
  20. Fingers Xd for you. Not looking good I'm afraid. Still raining heavily driving home an hour ago. Had a lot of rain last few days. You never know though.
  21. Still being advertised on the Leazes end screen at Saturdays Palace game.
  22. Channel hopping after MOTD last night i caught some of "Olivia Marries Her Match". Basically charts the lives of ex Love Island lass Olivia Atwood and Sunderlands' Bradley Dack. Was only of interest because they had their stag and hen doos in Ibiza (hers is on TV tonight at 9 apparently) and much of it was filmed in a couple of places next to our hotel. Ocean Beach Club was one of them. She's filmed in around what i'm guessing will be there former home of Cheshire. Wonder how she feels about their move further north. They both sound like being from down Souff. She spends half her life having beauty treatments done. Laser treatment, the works and without make up she looks nowt special at all and has wasted her money. He looks like a hen pecked drip. That's my TV review over. I promise i don't make a habit of watching such shite..honest
  23. Awful identikit stadia. Hate those places.
  24. Was thinking the same earlier. So close to all 3 pts at West Ham too. We'd be a point or 2 off top. All ifs and buts i suppose.
  25. Just off a flight from ibiza. The usual mackem knackers both ways. Clad in the obligatory red n white going out. Being all rebellious cos they're going through Newcastle. Same crowd on the flight back. One gave a little "red n white army" shout at the sight of a toon top getting on the plane. Another says "loads of mags on here like". Even one of his mates pointed out that's a probability considering we were flying to Newcastle. Then the old "should be called Ponteland airport, and "Sunderland Council own 51%" shite started. So pleased to get off.
