  1. We were in a bad way when Eddie took over but in absolutely dire straights when KK came in.
  2. Me and the bairn, whey she's 29, were under that big lamppost. Turned up about half 3 and was surprised at how easy it was to get roadside. Soon filled up. Was great to see families and people of all ages coming together. Such a feel good factor today. Walked alongside the bus and ended up on the moor. No ticket check. We were happy to see the players on the bus with the trophy so caught Sir Les talking then headed off. A few feeble attempts to check tickets at the point where we left. Looking forward to all the news coverage of it now. A good day and pleased we went.
  3. Had we not ended our trophy drought I'd probably settle for Man City winning the FA cup. Based on I would have hated to see some 'ordinary' club winning something while it eluded us. It's like Leicester when they won the league. Great story, but they're Leicester FFS. I was starting to think of that mackem wife on STID, the "why's it never us celebrating" one. Now I'm happy for some underdog to win it. Having said that I don't like Villa, Forest and to a lesser extent Brighton, so I suppose that doesn't leave many.
  4. Childhood memory but I was at the 76 home coming. I'm sure the team went round the SJP pitch to a packed crowd? Any other old gadgies remember?
  5. Carol Malia on Look North said there'd be a stream on iPlayer. Don't know if there's any way of checking in case I misheard and get grief.
  6. You're both probably right. It was just a poor hoppings/town moor joke with the swings and roundabouts.
  7. Will the majority prefer the parade or will more people choose the town moor? Swings and roundabouts I suppose 😊
  8. Live stream on iPlayer according to Carol Maglia on Look North just now.
  9. I missed that too. Thought he looked like Peter Reid 😯
  10. Heard Dawnie saying her dad played for our reserves in the 50s tonight on Look North after Carol Malia said her dad who passed 11 months ago was Newcastles biggest fan. This after a lengthy bulletin on the Toon lasses derby win. There'll have been a few tellies kicked in on Wearside tonight .
  11. Some might argue "finally win a cup and I'm not able to go and enjoy this type of celebration". Just wanting any celebration to be the best it can be isn't being addicted to misery. Nor is it saying anyone is dissatisfied with the running of the club. There's just a strong feeling they've got this one wrong, but aye, in the grand scheme of things it's hardly a massive problem.
  12. I just think it might be a struggle for the older generation for example to stand for ages.
  13. Wouldn't go that far Hovagod. All some are saying is that they feel the club/council/police have got it wrong. It feels like the celebrations are being dampened to me. Some aren't even physically able to attend and therefore the event is open to some and not all.
  14. Ha Ha, only read a few pages so far but hilarious 😂. There are one or 2 calmer exceptions. "Butchers Coat" was one. They're saying "for Geordies, by Geordies" but I heard the Look North weather lass, Jen Bartram saying she was a Sunderland fan and Anna Foster on radio Newcastle saying the staff is split 50/50. Meanwhile someone on RTG says why watch it yet is commenting on the content of the programme. Clowns 🤡 😂
  15. I agree that the FA cup is the more prestigious but I wouldn't swap winning the league cup last Sunday for winning the FA cup 52 years ago.
  16. I'd be sick of my life if It was the other way round like. We're just everywhere. Still the talk of local radio and tv. It's almost impossible for them to avoid the FACT that we've just won something, beating one of Europe's top sides, no, some of Europe's best sides when you throw in the likes of Arsenal. They're clinging to any crumb they can think of but the crumbs are meagre.
  17. Well probably not but thousands weren't there. This should be an opportunity for grand parents to go with grand kids etc and get close...ish to the players and cup and be easy to access, i.e a bus parade. Rumours there might be one so here's hoping, because it's unreasonable to expect old folk and young kids to be stood in a cold and possibly wet field for hours on end. With a bus parade people along the majority of the route let the bus pass by then disperse, satisfied with having seen what most are interested in, the team and the cup.
  18. You'll get the same people moaning that there are too many at the parade/celebration, when thousands who might have otherwise waited until the 29th might not bother because they've seen the cup this Sunday. In turn that will potentially reduce the crowd by thousands on the 29th.
  19. Just reading the the fume on the chronicle site about the cup being at the women's game. Can't understand it. Just let as many people as possible enjoy it, whether it's Sunday or March 29th or whenever. If it helps boost the crowd then so what? The success of the club has earned the right to cash in however it can, be it extra on Sundays gate or selling "winners" merch at the club shop. It's merely another chance to see it.
  20. Aye, a bus parade allows families, generations of people a chance to see that glorious trophy relatively close up. Surely at a town moor event the team and cup would be miles away from most of the crowd. I can remember my dad taking me to see us coming back from the 76 league cup final with nothing. Only a kid but remember it well and was grateful for him giving me that experience. Would be great for kids to be able to look back on seeing an actual cup. Hopefully they'll see plenty more of course.

Couldn't get the pic opened successfully but can remember beating them 1-0 on the opening day of that season. I'm sure Waddle went in goal but think Carr got injured and was unable to continue.
  22. If I was a mackem I'd just want to hide for the next few months. Wonder how Wee Phillies cup winning party went at Cosy Joe's. Hope he was in there with a face like a smacked arse. Anybody would think I didn't like the bloke.
  23. What was the name of that sports bar at Victoria someone mentioned on here. One or 2 on the train looking for somewhere to watch the game.
  24. Reminds me of that Alan Partridge sketch when he nicked the traffic cone
