  1. I went in the championship when we drew 0-0. Actually thought the Brum fans were ok. Friendly enough to talk to on the platform of that station near the ground. Brother in law used to knock about with all the hooligans back in the day. Once he's had a drink he tends to tell the same stories about away days and always says Birmingham for a midweek game was the scariest he ever encountered. Different days thankfully but no doubt it'll be a big day for some of their wrong'uns.
  2. Hypocrites will be back next league game singing "Sunland bewt boys, the loyalist football supporters the world has ever had". Well some of them will be back anyway. They must be skint as a club though. Can't be much money going in.
  3. Aye, the Toon fan making himself wide open to a big embarrassment there. Even us as the wider fanbase. The general piss take from fans of other clubs will be "remember that time you thought you'd reached the final then blew it?" Even though I'd hope most would stick to being quietly confident. Stay humble. Don't celebrate until the lads hopefully see the job through. The excitement and confidence is understandable of course.
  4. Watched a little bit on the Pompey channel when I thought they announced a 39K crowd. The Pompey commentators understandably doubted it. Said there certainly doesn't look that many there and of course they're right. How are these so near the top? It must be an awful league.
  5. Will be a few gaps in the crowd today in this weather. Still announce 40K+ regardless of course.
  6. How's that for 6 in a row Sunderland?
  7. After giving up my ST after 29 years under the foolish impression that many others would be doing the same, (they didn't and it still annoys me to this day), I was offered one of those tickets and took it. I wasn't giving Ashley any money and IMO at that time insufficient numbers had stayed away to make a difference. To be honest, I missed going after all those years. Anyway, from personal experience I WAS offered that seat in an e mail from the club, in my name once fans could go back post covid. Chose another seat cos it was a shite seat and there was loads of others to choose from back then.
  8. Caught a bit of the "total sport" phone in last night and Gary Bennett was saying how sides will fear coming to the SOS. Give over man. It's hardly the Bernabeu.
  9. Aye, we did. Think they went up after all to have the last laugh. We've had plenty since then mind.
  10. Then there was the 1980 NYD win by the same scoreline after going behind. Great stuff. Soon brought back down to earth in true Toon fashion by losing to Chester (including Ian Rush) at home in the FA cup the following Saturday.
  11. https://www.stmirren.com/all-news/5705-owen-oseni-becomes-first-signing-of-2025 Don't know him but Gateshead forward moving North.
  12. I so loved that 1st half hour last night. Gary Neville admitting Man U were getting a hammering. Home fans disgruntled and on their teams backs. Confidence and belief coursing through our side. I was greedily disappointed we didn't turn the screw and beat them by more but suppose that's a sign of how the last month has went. HWTL!
  13. No, just in my head. I get flashbacks to videos I've seen him in on derby days etc in clubs in Sunderland. Even that annoys me. The fact that he is anonymous to most of the Cosy Joes crowd. He's just seen as another DJ and goes under the radar. I know though. Boy do I know
  14. Message to self, stay out of Cosy Joe's as the sight of that "Wee Phillie" prick in the DJ box boils my piss so much. Just couldn't get the image of him leading anti NUFC sing-alongs wearing that snide Chubby Brown type suit out my head at the weekend. Hates the Toon and Geordies so much he spends every weekend in Newcastle.

You are probably right but would be very surprised if we "only" had 28k in the ground yet had fans sitting on walls and roofs. I know once momentum gathered and we got that winning run going crowds rose dramatically but I think I remember it being more gradual.
  16. Ah really? Interesting. He sat literally 2 rows back from my seat, directly in line with me. Did the club pull him up for filming and he's chucked it then? Didn't know him or watch his content but seemed friendly enough.
  17. Aye, seen the Carlisle bus a few times. Seems to be a few coaches from Scotland too. "Parks of Hamilton" and the likes.

After doing some digging it looks like the wet day v Southend i can remember was the previous season which ended in the same score line. 28K at the 92/93 opener though.

You sure? Seems a big turn out for an opening game v Southend after narrowly escaping relegation to the third tier the season before. I thought it was a wet day for that Southend game too but a long time ago so not sure. Not saying you're wrong of course. It just surprises me.
  20. I'm sure there was one spell where Oldham did really well in the cups too. 90s maybe. Think I can remember a semi final v Man U. Might have reached a league cup final too?
  21. What a night afterwards too. That Andy Cole song reverberated around the Bigg Market for half the night along with David Kelly ("scored a hat-trick on the Tele") and Robert Lee ("scored a goal on ITV").
  22. I was the same. Would wake up and instantly look forward to any midweek game. Got to admit I nearly sacked it off myself on Monday. Up for work at 04.30..ish so my overriding thought all day Monday was how knackered and shit I'd feel next day. As you say public transport doesn't get you home in a hurry either these days. Don't think I've ever recovered my enthusiasm since briefly chucking my ST during the Ashley era and maybe it's an age thing too. Old fart that I am.
  23. The outcome has so far been a good one with rivals getting better results last night and hopefully Leeds will do so tonight. So thankfully they're on the slide down the table but would of expected the slide to be quicker given their poor run of form.
