Funny reading this everyone had a different opinion on the game. One thing I have to say and I'm not a mcclaren fan at all...there's no point getting on his back before the season has even started.

I wouldn't see it as a good summer at all still. We still desperately need a left back, centre back and two wingers and Thats just for the starting eleven. This is what ashley hoped to do and is succeding...damping our expectactions while we are over the moon with whatever little amount comes are way.I will be very surprised to see us getting that many incomings without any major outgoings...although there isn't too many players I would be sad to see the back of.

I remember after having a good season with us...pardew was talking about him in the pre season saying some ridiculous things about him I can't remember exactly what but I think the gist of it was that he had more to his game going forward etc. One thing even when he was playing well was it was pretty obvious what he brought to the team and none of it was in anyway attack minded
