Isn't it Lee Dixon's job to know the rules?
-
Strange one. Seemed to perform reasonably well most times he played. However, barely got any minutes and most managers didn't seem to fancy him. Perhaps he was crap in training. Will always remember him for that lung busting run versus leeds that turned out entire season. Good luck to him

We are much more likely to sell Bruno or Isak because of FFP (and not the other way around).
-
There is definitely an argument that there should be some mechanism to prevent the club's with the deepest pockets winning all the time. FFP is not the answer to this though, because FFP is based on profit, which in turn is based on revenue, and those with the deepest pockets pre FFP have the largest revenue.
-
To 'prevent a leeds' you want enhanced controls that are focussed on cash reserves and the ability of clubs to meet obligations such as loan repayments, VAT, PAYE etc. For example, can all clubs meet 12 months worth of commitments in a scenario where they are relegated? FFP controls are nothing to do with cash or financial security. A club could put £1bn in a sealed escrow account to demonstrate financial security for the next decade, but it could still fail FFP.

I've seen several FTSE 250 company's finances and budgets glued together by manual spreadsheets and vlookups. They just upload the resulting spreadsheet into some flashy web based portal for the front end reports and the CEO and investors assume everything in finance is high tech and cutting edge.

You are probably right. What usually happens on problems like this is a company will buy some bespoke modelling tool for lots of money and which integrates with their financial ledger and which outputs lots of flashy charts that look good for the monthly reports. After a few months the financial controller will realise it doesn't quite work or is not flexible enough, and so instead resorts to a manual spreadsheet that he or she is comfortable with.

Ha. I appreciate my username is not a good choice for someone who dislikes Joey Barton.

Behind the veneer of the wannabe working class socialist hero, the veneer of the quirky Nietzsche quoting wannabe intellectual, the veneer of the Morrissey loving mod. Giving off the pretence that he is an NUFC legend despite only having a very brief purple patch and doing nothing else of note for us despite going to prison. His faux hatred of the mackems. The bloke creates an image to try and mask over his inadequacies.
-
Behind the veneer is a deeply horrible bloke.

Dummett rocked up straight from love island like? Looking fresh

Who told Sunderland to play out from the back against a premier league pressing team ? Batshit tactics that plays into our hands
-
Ref basically not being objective and deciding not to book Sunderland players because he would prefer them to have 11 men. Joke refereeing
-
Almiron immense. Nice to see against a set of fans that are convinced he is the worse player in premier league history
-
Longstaff so out of form. He looks like he will cost us goals at every moment.

FFP has nothing to do with preventing a Portsmouth/Leeds. If it wanted to do that it would apply 'going concern' style controls where the club needs to demonstrate security through an ability to continue to meet its commitments over a set period. These controls could be enhanced so they set a higher bar than normal going concern tests applied to every company through an annual audit and so that they consider some of the unique challenges that face football clubs. In those tests, the source of security, whether it be ongoing profit or capital commitments from owner should be irrelevant. Debt should be fine too as long as the club can demonstrate it can meet its repayments under sensitised scenarios (e.g. missing out on champions league, relegation etc.). Equally, similar tests could be applied to check the club can meet its other commitments (wages, HMRC etc) in sensitised scenarios. All clubs could be required to get these tests independently signed off by an auditor. All the above would never happen of course because the real reason we have FFP, is not to demonstrate long term financial security, but to lock in the status quo as much as it is possible.

At the risk of going all Arsenal, you could make an interesting montage of decisions at Anfield against us in the last few years... Just off the top of my head: -Two pens yesterday -Dummett 'penalty' on Salah -Two players down with head injuries when a Liverpool goal scored - Ryan Fraser Penalty not given -Ref obstructing our player to assist Trent - 10 minutes of added on time facilitating late winner - Isak 'offside' Most of those decisions made diddly squat difference as Liverpool generally so much better than us at Anfield.
-
On the longstaff penalty appeal - if the same ball falls to a more technical player then they can engineer the situation far more effectively. Longstaff regularly collapses after miscontrolling the ball or a poor touch.
-
There are certainly mitigating circumstances but we have to be able to set up more organised than we did today. Liverpool didn't have to do anything in order to be clean through on Dubravka
-
We are playing so open at the moment. Unrecognisable from the tight unit and organisation from last year.
-
Amusing that we are 1-1 despite Liverpool being far superior to us but impossible to enjoy as we cannot possibly hold on.
-
Anfield crowd appeal for anything. They don't even know what they are appealing for half the time.
-
Yep. When he is off the pace he just randomly appeals for phantom fouls and free kicks to disguise mistakes.
-
Need to borrow Liverpool's throw in coach

Jason Koumas. Saw him play live early on in his career and was convinced he was the on track for the Balon D'or. I was wrong.
