Surely Viduka. He'll bang 'em in But I've got this strange omnious feeling, that one of the other three will have a disastrous, almost career-wrecking, season...
-
Imo one of the reasons Emre never really showed his true ability, is because he works best in a three man midfield behind the AMC and with a hardworking more defensive minded player beside him. The same way as Barca plays Iniesta or Deco. I think this is how Big Sam wants to play him, if he choices to stick with his 4-3-3 formation. So selling him now wouldn't be a good move.

Henry seemed to me hopeless at Juve. Has he really improved that much since then?

Hooray hooray :frantic: That just made my day :celb:

Baptista would be a great signing imo. Great versatility, great physical presence, great player tbh. He has of course still not adapted fully to the PL. But it seems he has the right attitude, so he will (and if there is a manager able to make players adapt to the english... well we've got him). He's a player I've always hoped would come to play for Newcastle, but always thought there wasn't a chance in the world. If it's true he wants to come here and that the price is only £6 mill.. I say get him!

Barton could be interesting..
-
Atiba is never gonna be a newcastle regular.
-
I've seen him plenty of times. An excellent player in the danish league, but nowhere near the standard you would expect from a Newcastle player + Copenhagen has a strong finances so they would ask a whole lot for one of their best players. Would rather play a barton with no legs or even dyer...

Count me in Killgod United

Well, if Dyer got rid of his injury problems, became more motivated and began playing regularly (all things which could happen) the season 2007-08 could be his renascence. And he would then be an asset to the club. A lot of if's, but my main argument for giving him the chance to succeed at Newcastle would be that I'd hate for him to succeed anywhere else.
-
Edmilson is quite possibly the closest Newcastle could come to a great holding midfielder and centreback. It's a gamble, but it is definitely one worth taking. His current injury situation is the only reason we have a shot at him. So bring him in! 30 is no age for a player in his position where pace is not the main attribute, but rather experience. He rather at the peak of his career than at the end of it. He could have 4-5 seasons at top level left in him imo. We should have taken the same gamble with Woodgate.
-
Aren't people forgetting that Sam will probably employ the 4-5-1 formation in many games (from what I've heard 4-4-2 seems unlikely). which will mean there's still three central midfielders, but two wings and only one forward position for our four frontmen to fight over (Viduka will probably get it). Of course if we replaced Martins or Owen with Gudjohnson (please please please) he could be the top of the three man central midfield.

Aye, but their meaning is from a purely technical standpoint: it's actually impossible for us to qualify for the CL until 2008-09. I know it's impossible before 2008-09, but I'm still being optimistic and hoping it will happen then, even though it's unrealistic. And it's more than a purely tecnical standpoint that it "does not look likely before the 2008/09 season at the earliest." There's still the judgement that it is fairly unlikely for us to qualify for CL in 2008-09. But I'm not one to let 'slim to almost impossible' chances destroy my hope, I'm a Newcastle fan after all.
-
Well, I'm optimistic. And Deloitte wrote that in february before big Sam and mighty Mike came aboard.

Hope Ashley has read this:

I think you're right.. I must have thought of the fact that their respective tax systems doesn't allow them to offer the players that much money (after taxes). But that certainly doesn't mean they don't payout as much, they might even pay more because of it. Sorry, my bad. But in my own defence, I did write an 'iirc' (which I didn't).
-
This is your own guesswork, isn't it?? I think you should be able to find the actual standings somewhere. Do that and then we can discuss (and be disgusted of) how much Newcastle are overpaying their players.. Btw I don't think you'd find the Milans and Bayern that high.. There's not very high salaries in Germany and italy iirc..

I heard we're interrested in signing the swedish talent Jon Jönsson from Elfsborg. He's supposedly being chased by a number of european clubs. Anyone know anything about him? And could someone explain why he is still being called a talent at 23??
-
Seen him a couple of times. Very solid defender and a big fellow as well, scores a fair amount on headers. Nothing extraordinary, but could do the job. A Big-Sam-kinda-player!
-
You're completely right Let's get rid of the lot and buy some Martin's and Rommedahl's to play as Targetmen, cm's and cb's, 'cause that's where the pace's needed.
