A bit extreme to get on his wife about any of this. She's not at fault and it's pretty presumptuous to assume to know how she feels or what her intentions and motivations are.

It's not every day a PL club does the ol' stand by your nonce routine.

This is more along the lines of how you'd want to see something like this play out: http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/14832536/mlb-puts-jose-reyes-colorado-rockies-paid-leave-case-over. Not touting baseball as a blueprint or without fault, or anything.

We don't really know what his contract with the club says. Presumably there's some provision permitting the club to terminate for conviction of a felony or tarnishing the club's reputation, but it may not have clearly addressed being charged with a crime but not yet convicted and arguably he doesn't bring the club into disrepute unless and until what he's done is public. It's cynical, but one approach says don't risk a constructive discharge or breach of contract suit (and help try to avoid relegation) by letting him play--the duties of his job don't really involve alone time with minors, what he does off duty is beyond our control, and the cops are already aware, so we're not keeping anything secret. Then if he pleads guilty or is otherwise convicted we terminate him. Not what I'd want to be seen doing, but I don't see much risk for the club unless he does something while on the job, which the club should be in a good position to make sure doesn't happen.

This is what I've been asking for days. Suppose the jury must just decide who to side with in all these paedophile cases where the only witness is the victim... I honestly don't know. The jury, as finder of fact, is tasked with the role of determining the credibility of testimony and what weight to give it and all of the other evidence presented.

Yeah, I guess otherwise there's nothing to counter her testimony, and you can't really just rely on the prosecution not having proven its case. But man, the feeling leading up to him getting on the stand could not have been a great one.

Man, I would not have wanted to put him on the stand. Ultimately his own call though.

So it's between the incredible media backlash they are about to receive and having to watch NFL... If you actually bang them they make you watch baseball. Don't make me Ray Rice you. As if I know what that means That's the beauty of it.

Christ, man. All they had to do was just look at the NFL over the past couple of years to know that you've got to suspend a player as soon as charges are leveled (and keep him suspended unless there's a resolution in his favor) to be able to come out of it with any perceived integrity.

  13. I've always assumed the relegationometer is powered by coal-fired steam engine, but I don't really know that for certain. Pata?

Humor is a natural way of dealing with horrible things. No one here is condoning or truly making light of what happened. We're all acutely aware of how sad it is.
