  1. Indeedly doodly. You don’t need to throw many punches if the bloke you’re fighting comes flying at you windmilling as soon as the bell rings, he rarely lands his blows, he often leaves his guard down and he has a glass jaw. And also when he goes to the deck he rarely makes it back up. Couple of rudimentary jabs and an upper cut will floor him and the fight is won.
  2. From watching games I’d say our midfield and defence were very easy to cut through, particularly from the halfway line to the edge of our box. Teams exploit that space game after game. Thats why I was sure 5th place must have meant the table was the wrong way round. The Villa thing was a nerdy article I read by a proper analyst who talked about how Villa weren't actually outperforming their stats, they just play a different tactical game compared to how the stat boffins presume a game is played when they create the stat measurement criteria. It had diagrams of their goal scoring positions etc.
  3. I’ve made this point before about those stats taking a one size fits all approach, which must have an impact on where the likes of us and Villa show up in them tables. In our case, we must be 5th best because teams don’t need to create many chances, just keep plugging away knowing we’ll fuck up defensively at some point, usually after we’ve blown our beans in the first half hour and only converted one of a number of chances we’ve created. If we go one up in first half, teams don’t need to worry themselves about it. That’s not all on the keeper, it’s a lack of defensive cover in midfield and defensive unit (including the keeper) that are prone to making individual errors most games. And a weak as piss mentality overall. And Villa have deliberately been employing a tactic of getting players who have great long range shooting ability into positions where they can have long range shots. Hence why their numbers don’t stack up.
  4. That definitely right, the 5th best ? I can’t believe that like. We’re constantly giving away chances this season, good ones too. Most of the time the opposition midfield just strolls towards our penalty area without any hassle and then picks their pass to an attacker who scores. We give away fuckloads of chances. You definitely sure it’s not a list with worst at the top and we’re 5th ?
  5. I fell in love with Eddie because of the defence he built in his first full season. I thought all the horrors of NUFC defences that I’ve had to endure in the last 40 years might have finally been banished to the annals of history. Whatever magic touch he had then, has long since gone. And I’m now watching the same Keystone Cops defending that I’ve known for all my adult life. I feel extremely let down at how he’s shattered my defensive dreams, not gonna lie.
  6. What does it actually mean though. I think the original post said we were 5th for xGC. We’re 5th worst in the league for the number of decent scoring chances we give to the opposition ? Surely we can’t be 5th best, given how tragic our defensive record is. That would be mental.
  7. 22/23 we only conceded 33 goals all season A little bit of jizz spurts out of the end of my wriggler whenever I think about that
  8. We’ve thrown away more points from decent positions than any other team in the league, we’ve failed to gain points from losing positions more than any other team in the league. That all can’t be down to bad luck. So I’m sceptical about luck being the problem. Cogito ergo sum, if we had a decent keeper everything would be sweet like chocklit ?
  9. We’re 14th in the league for goals conceded. 2nd bottom of the league for points gained from losing positions. Rock bottom for points dropped from winning positions. Rock bottom for points gained when conceding first. Whisper in my lughole and explain what xGC is telling me that those stats don’t ? I promise not to bite your ear off
  10. I’ve got 2 x cousins who have the same birthday 2 x years apart and it’s the day before their mams birthday. They’re not related to Mo Salah though.
  11. We even got our money back on the much maligned Chris Wood. Only downside was seeing him banging them in for Forest after he was in the doldrums here.
  12. What came first, the chicken or the egg. They could be underperforming because Howe’s having a frustrating season. Or Howe’s having a frustrating season because the players have been underperforming. Takes two to tango.
  13. No-one’s talked much about what Eddie might want from us. It’s all about what we want from him. Maybe he’s thinking he’d fancy a change. Maybe he’s getting sick of NUFC.
  14. I was banging on about those exact stats on here last week. And unsurprisingly given the defensive record, we're in relegation fodder positions for both Points Gained After Going Behind and Points Dropped From Being Ahead. Conclusion: We're weak as piss.
  15. I'm neither Howe In or Howe Out. And I'd say having a manager like Eddie, that we can be proud of, is important to me. But I'd also say that: 1) results and overall progress matter more to me than being a great ambassador and "getting" the club. 2) other managers should be able to be a great ambassador and "get" the club. If the recruitment is done right.
  16. If you're comparing Alonso to Jose and Conte at Spurs then you also haven't thought that through either. Alonso's only been a fully fledged manager since Oct 2022. That's 3.5 years. A couple of years where he did a amazing turnaround at a Leverkusen team that was doomed. Then a torrid 6 months with Real. And Leverkusen got him from Real Sociedad B team. Which also backs up an opinion that there can be successful managers lurking in places you wouldn't expect to find them. And once again, for the record, I'm not saying Alonso is coming here. He's being used as a hypothetical example.
  17. I'm not saying he's coming here. I'm just saying he's a name that was mentioned and was shot down for the same reasons you've just given and I was just offering an alternative viewpoint. It was hypothetical. And your Real Madrid example is why he might prefer a lower level of team than going to another elite team. He had a shocker at Madrid and might prefer to avoid going for another elite club right now. So you rubbished my hypothetical and then went and justified it, all in the same post. "He was shit at a top team so he'll have his pick of the top teams" plus "he couldn't get galacticos to perfom so he won't fit in at NUFC". You haven't really thought that through have you.
  18. Stop being a menace. They're in the 1/4's of the Champs League too. When they appointed Kompany it was a proper head scratcher given his CV. And it's not been a disaster. That's the point being made.
  19. To give a view on a Howe replacement people have to 1) Know the global pool of managers 2) Predict the future about how bringing a manager here would work out It's a completely pointless exercise. Alonso might be sitting there thinking "I'd fucking love a crack at the NUFC job, it'd be a step between the turn around at Leverkusen and the elite club nightmare I've just had at Real" Neither you, or me or anyone else who posts on this forum know what Alonso's thinking.
  20. Bayern took the unproven in the Bundesliga bloke who'd just got Burnley relegated. And he seems to be doing well. Man Utd took the unproven in the Premier League bloke who'd just been sacked by Boro. And he seems to be doing well. Man Utd took the highly rated proven trophy winner from Sporting and he was fucking shit. Yadda yadda yadda. People who post on internet forums who think they know how to run football clubs generally don't know how to run football clubs.
  21. It's a ridiculous thing to be asked as a justification for having the opinion as to why Howe's time here might be up. And it's absolutely pointless given no-one has any idea which managers might be interested in coming here. Someone suggested Alonso just to put a name out there and was immediately shot down with a "No chance, Liverpool done deal" response. I couldn't even name all of the managers in the Premier League, never mind Europe, South America, Saudi and so on. But I can still see that changing Howe might be what's needed. People feel strongly that they want to replace Noon as a shirt sponsor. Do they have to offer up alternatives in order to express their opinion ? People feel strongly that Andy Howe shouldn't be in this job because his uncle is the manager. Do they have to offer up alternatives to express their opinion ?
  22. Why does identifying a potential problem mean you also have to suggest a possible solution ? I haven't got a clue about the global management talent pool. Doesn't mean I can't think we look stale and out of ideas and a change MIGHT be what's needed to fix things. And for the record, I'm neither Howe In or Howe Out. I can see upsides and downsides of both sticking and twisting.
  23. And having a deeks at this also
  24. Worth having a deeks at this again
