Nothing ever changes by staying the same. Quite literally.

I love it how all of the chat in the transfer thread is about how we need to be creative and go to untapped markets and recruit players with potential where we can maximise value and not just go for premier league proven. And then come in here and the only names that get mentioned as potential Howe successors are the premier league proven ones. Quite the juxtaposition.

So you don’t even get a tiny twinge of excitement if you allow yourself to imagine a future where we bring in a new manager who turns out to be amazing ? For ease of reference, let’s imagine what happens next means that Eddie was our Mancini and Mr New Manager becomes our Pep. If we replace Eddie you can see no other future other than abject failure ?
-
Sometimes the grass is greener you know. You seem utterly convinced that anyone but Howe would be a huge mistake. It’s a very naive and narrow minded way of thinking, to believe the only possible outcome of replacing Howe would be a bad outcome. It might turn out good. It might turn out bad. You can’t possibly say for certain what will happen.

If you arrived home early from work and Eddie Howe had your lass bent over the kitchen bench and was scuttling her from behind with a can of your best beer in one hand and as you walked in on the scene he looked you dead in the eye without breaking rhythm and said “I’ve ordered an Uber Eats on your account because I’ll be proper hungry when I’ve finished this” you’d give him a round of applause wouldn’t you

Is there a new rule in place that says NUFC can only recruit a new manager who is either currently managing or has recently managed in the English top flight ? Or is Jose Mourinho. Names getting bandied about in here are about as creative as your nanna suggesting places to go on your holidays

We’d be home & hosed as league champions if we’d won every league game we’ve played this season. But we haven’t. And we’re not.

Don’t presume anything would be my strong advice. You shouldn’t presume that 50 years of managerial history will dictate the future of managerial history. Same as someone else shouldn’t presume that appointing a new manager will definitely lead to success. Just ‘cause you feel it, doesn’t mean it’s there.
-
We’ve got completely different people in charge of the club. Looking back over 50 years of management appointments and using that as a predictor of future behaviour is daft. Unless you believe that NUFC is actually run by a metaphysical force that can override any decision made by any owner and ensure that the club never appoints two good managers consecutively.
-
They might appoint someone and get it absolutely right. Like they did in appointing Howe. We might get our own version of Alonso and storm to league victory next season. Contemplate that for a moment instead of insisting that the only outcome will be disastrous. The future’s not ours to see.

Scenes at The Knox when number 1 on your list arrives back in town

Might be someone who’s not obvious to an average punter like us on here. Alsono was managing Sociedad B Team and then roared to an unbeaten season and title win at Leverkusen. For example.

If every team in the league wins every one of their remaining games, apart from us ?

I’m neutral on Howe by the way, I can see the potential positives and negatives of both sticking and twisting.

From our resident Bournemouth fan: He's very meticulous in his approach to tactics which led to us playing some absolutely stunning beautiful football at times, but in his latter days he did show a bit of an unwillingness to change style and personel which held us a back a bit. He takes his time with new signings so I wouldn't necessarily expect to see any January transfers walk straight into the team. He usually took a good 6 months at least to bed a player into the setup before he trusted them in the starting 11. One thing I'm really interested in is how he deals with your board. At Bournemouth he was known for being a control freak and pretty much directly oversaw all aspects of the club (think SAF at man u or Wenger at Arsenal), and one of the rumoured reasons why he left when we went down was that our board tried to change some of that and he basically walked. I'm not sure how this will translate to your current circumstance and how much Eddie has chnaged in this regard over his long break from football, as his obsessiveness and full effort definitely contributed to his downfall at the end of his time with us.

It’s all relevant evidence. That’s the point I was making.

I’m not focusing on a single season of failure, I’m simply saying he didn’t leave Bournemouth on a high after having an unbelievable amount of success there. He ran out of steam there. He might run out of steam here. He might not run out of steam here. That’s all I’m saying.
