They won’t sell us Maddison when they can get 60m plus for Fofana. A cb is easier to replace than the goals, assists and general attacking quality of someone like Maddison.

One thing I will say about Lascelles is at least he’s a specimen physically; has great recovery pace and a goal threat on set-pieces. He did look decent when Rafa paired him with someone extremely calm, composed and positionally brilliant in Lejeune, so I can understand the thinking in partnering him with Botman. Big BUT though, Lascelles’ positioning and reading of the game in defense is genuinely horrible. I am impressed by how much better on the ball he’s looked in pre-season but he’s still miles away from Schar and Burn in that regard.

Or you can test him in the Championship and see if he excels or not there. There isn’t “only one way to find out” at all.

I’ve said this earlier but these aren’t that bad. Their youngish, hungry squad and decent manager will get them mid-table imo. Lots of absolute no-hopers at the bottom end of the Championship.
