  1. Nerve-wracking as owt was that day. I can remember Dabizas getting away with a blatant handball after we'd gone 1 ahead. Did Shearer get them both that day - first one was a pen wasn't it? I know it was 2-0 aet... Can't remember anything about that match (well apart from that goal) but after reading this I can now remember, watching it at home and, the handball being clear as day. Think Dabizas's handball was at 0-0, then Sol Campbell did exact same thing and we got pen. I was in the upper tier at the side, whole crowd jumping up and down chanting 'Ruud Gullit' and could actually feel it bouncing, remember Shearer commenting on it. You were obviously one of the chaps I was looking up at... ...and me! We were right under the top tier in the North Stand, and the whole concrete deck was bouncing about 6 inches. The middle tier we were in was swaying about that much it felt like standing on a surfboard. Thank f**k for the six pints or so consumed before the match, or I'd have been bloody terrified. One of the Man U stewards came over and said "it's never like this when United are at home!" I'll never forget that last 20 minutes -"Ruud Gullit's Black and White Army"
  2. That's the one for me - best game, best result (considering the opponents) and best atmosphere I've ever witnessed.
  3. ............is a very neat summation. The 1990's were by far the best period to be a Newcastle fan in my nearly forty years of supporting the club. My Dad agreed with this, he rated Keegan's side as the best he'd ever seen, even though he saw us lift the FA Cup in '55 and the Fairs Cup in '69. My old Granda on the other hand, was a boy in the Edwardian era and saw us win EVERYTHING, three league Championships and two FA Cups.
  4. Anyone who votes for anything other than the 1900's knows nothing of the history of our club. At that time we really were "the greatest team the world has ever seen"
  5. Plenty of legroom in the back of the Gallowgate. I'm 6' 1" and don't have to get up when people want past.
  6. Yes. Apparently the guy's been arrested. Aye got pushed over and a bloke got arrested. These c***s should be made to play the next derby behind closed doors. Cheers I can't believe how often this happens. I hope the club are stung up for it. Maybe Bruce and Quinn will accept they're a classless bunch of seasiders. Surely an assault on a prem player is something the FA cannot ignore. Massive punishment. Has to be. f*** all in the news though Happens every time - nothing ever done. If the boot was on the other foot you'd have hundreds of makems ringing the BBC, phoning their MP, demanding that we were punished. We're not that small time.
  7. Absolutely. Just about everyone would have taken 1-1 at the start. It took a fluke goal to beat us. And in a match with Smith replaced by Guthrie, they STILL couldn't beat us. "...6-2 TO THE GEORDIE BOYS ... "
  8. Agreed, the next time he went in for the tackle, he went in so half hearted you could see it had affected him. A joke, considering the tackle that put Smith out of the game went unpunished.
  9. Totally agree with the OP. The Williamson incident was hardly mentioned until Sunday morning when Chris fuckin Kamara decided to get on his high horse about it. As we all know, the pundits on all channels range from the shockingly lame (i.e Kamara), to the ridiculously biased (anyone hear Kevin Phillips in last nights makem match?) The only way the use of video evidence will ever be fair, is if there is an independent panel (much like the pools panel) scrutinising the unedited foootage from all the cameras of every game.
  10. Loved how they called it 'unmentionable' as well.
  11. Wish I had a fiver for every time they've mentioned THE 5-1 tonight
  12. Hope this backfires..Zenden's been their best player tonight
  13. Ratboy - "...that's a great tackle from Turner..." as Turner clears the ball off the line and collides with the post

    Cattermole

I can't understand for the life of me why some randomly-selected incidents get looked at after the event, and others don't. Totally unfair and inconsistent. This has always been my argument why video evidence should not be in football. The commentators/co-commentators/directors/editors are all guilty of selectively choosing which incidents to highlight. In short, they're all biased one way or another, depending on their agenda. If you're fine with the likes of Andy Gray and Mark Lawrenson being the arbiters of "justice" and "fair-play" then go down this route.

    Sunderland...

I'd agree with that if I didn't live half way between Newcastle and sunderland, didn't work with about 75% makem bastards and hadn't been kicked all over at school because of being out-numbered by the inbred fuckwits. ....ONE THREAD...that's all it is... have another look at their pitiful forum if you think we're anywhere near as obsessed.
  16. Now this makes interesting reading http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/opinion/blogs/mirror-football-blog/Will-Arsenal-be-Premier-League-champions-in-May-Will-West-Ham-Sunderland-and-Blackpool-be-relegated-Maths-boffins-give-you-an-idea-with-their-Performance-League-predictor-article623411.html
  17. I mentioned this to my mates in the aftermath of last week's game -- got accused of being "gay for Shola" :-[
  18. Just gets better and better. All our defenders were magnificent today, but Colo was simply imperious. :colo:
  19. Couldn't agree more. I've been bigging Steven Taylor up as our right back, but Simpson was immense today.
