As much as I hate the Mackems, I’d probably disagree. There’s actually some decent assets - lots of highly valued young players who may look shit whenever I watch them but if they are getting 8 figures for players like Watson it indicates they’ll probably gets 8 figures for Bellingham, Rigg and maybe one or two others, plus the stadium and compared to some of the mid table premier league clubs a decent support - they’ll sell out for at least the first season in the premier league you’d imagine - it’ll potentially be an attractive proposition. They’re not too dissimilar to Man City in terms of pre-takeover profile, but the ownership game and rules have very much changed since then and Sunderland is a lot more backwater than Manchester. I hope nobody does come in for them, but wouldn’t rule it out, particularly with the US hardon for soccerball and some prominence via their hilarious documentary. Even with new owners I think they’d be straight back down, just maybe in better position to stabilise and go again. Without new owners I’m hoping they do a Luton, who themselves did a Sunderland. Frankly, I just want them consigned back to the championship asap and to fuck off into oblivion. Can’t completely count on it tho.

My only real concern is if Moyes gives them a complete pass to play however they fancy and they just pile into attacking. Feels highly unlikely and still think we would win, but I am less concerned if they sit deep - as mentioned above, think we have found ways through this in recent months and would do so again. So there isn’t a default spot in conference league for a league place? Say if we finished tenth having won the cup, we would be in conference league and no other English team would be?

I’ve got quite a few mates who are palace fans, one of whom is at the game with his lad who are coming back to stay at mine after, couldn’t be more happy for them. Even if all of them plus Chelsea and Manchester Utd buy 5 of the best players on the market each, that’s 25 players across the planet. We’ve got to hope between our scouts, Howe and our owners we can still land plenty of decent talent. Botman and Tonali weren’t at the top of their lists and Isak and Bruno we got in front of Arsenal to get. I’m not going to get disheartened before the window even opens, we still haven’t had UCL confirmed so cannot act officially anyhow

As with every game against the Sky 6, the coverage (at least that I’ve seen) is all about Arsenal getting second and having the squad back and how they could win the league next year. I hope this is being relayed to our lot in similar terms to the Manc game a couple of years back. If we actually do pull it out the bag and end up second then the narrative has to change. Conversely a tiny bit of me thinks that Eddie, if he could pick with no risk of missing out, might prefer us in 4th or 5th and another season a tiny bit more under the radar.
