Tiote's not a defensive player from what I've seen so far though, he wins it but also drives us forward (far more than the insipid Barton who is trying to perfect the Nicky Butt aimless chip into the corner). Tiote was absolutely bossing the central midfield imo. Barton did that three times today - Carroll won a throw-in on one and corners on the other two. Butt's always went out for a goal kick.

I don't feel any pity for him at all, he's had 6 games to even show a hint of being a Premier League player and he simply has not. He wasn't that bad today but he panicked at the wrong moment like a ninny and it cost us the game.

I'd be disappointed if Nolan wasn't pointing things out to Hughton. He's the captain, he has the authority to do so, and Hughton has the authority to either take the advice on board or ignore it. In fact, Hughton has probably asked Nolan to do this, as he seems to like getting others opinions before forming his decision - he and Calderwood are often debating things during games, it's rare you seem some other managers doing that.
