One thing I remember about Pav is that when the hype around NUFC was unreal and everyone was invested in it, there was a game at home to Forest when Collymore was the best striker in the league and in ultra confident form. We let Collymore clean through near the end and it looked a certain goal until Pav out-foxed him and somehow grabbed the ball from his feet before he had a chance to think about shooting. There were articles devoted to the save in the Chronicle, it was that good. I've made it sound shit, maybe you had to be there but it was fantastic and kept us in the game.

Buyback clauses should be banned but I suppose that a blanket ban would stagnate certain youngsters. Would like to find a way for big clubs to have to take their chances like everyone else rather than hedge their bets and gain yet another advantage beyond their vast finances. Tbh before we brought in Pardew we were mostly perfectly happy with Hughton and the way he had the club headed, it's easy to forget that even Hughton was a lucky gamble that paid off to an extent and every appointment Ashley has ever made has been a fucking joke other than Keegan. Slightly harsh on Shearer I suppose, given that was a gamble that didn't pay off and in different circumstances he might have made a better fist of it, whether he ended up being a good manager or not. Ironically enough I've started thinking Shearer could be a decent boss one day but doubt he'll ever go for it, he speaks with a lot more authority these days and could see him being both nice and nasty in the dressing room and getting away with it. Does speak sense on MOTD now too, although he'll clearly not be a brilliant tactician or anything.

25 is quite young for a keeper, they often don't get starts at the top level until that age. Was a shame today, no idea how good he actually is but he made a couple of decent stops and probably didn't benefit from being thrown in at the last minute. Some of the worst kicking I've ever seen, mind.
