  1. Bunch of smug patronising arsehole fans. ‘We’d never sell to Saudis’ Aye right, easy to say when you live in middle class South London built on the back the work of the rest of country, and further funded by Russia, Abu Dhabi, Chine, and every other fucking nation.
  2. If it was purely investment, you wouldn’t buy a football club. Ok values can rise, but generally you have to put in just as much for that to grow. I don’t think it is purely investment, maybe initially from PCP it was, but I think Amanda made it clear after doing the Manchester City deal, she wanted to own/run a club. I think circumstances have changed, and she doesn’t want to do that anymore, PCP was pretty much neglected whilst she did. From the Reuben’s, they are wanting soft power/to get in to bed with the council. They own about a quarter of the city in property, much of it which needs regenerating. They need to have a relationship with the council, or some leverage. NUFC does that. We all know why Saudi want to own us, the same reason why Abu Dhabi own Manchester City, and Qatar own PSG.
  3. I can see us being given an invite to join, but not being part of the founding members discussion. No doubt the same clubs who are trying to prevent us from blowing everyone in the Premier League, will want to do so in an ESL as well. Despite what Staveley said, if the discussions happened again, we would be interested. The fans won’t, but the owners and people running it will be. Maybe we’d use it as leverage in the Premier League though. I do worry, and think that it’s only a matter of time before the ESL raises It’s ugly head again.

That would seem daft. Newcastle Thunder only get something like 200 fans, and aren’t in the Super League. Seems pointless to limit the Stack to less than 10% of it’s capacity, especially when Super League clubs fans often mingle with each other before, during, and after games.

Yeah, I think this is the 2nd time that they have tried to move it away from Newcastle, and it’s failed. I think the fact that we are not on the M62 Super League corridor, helps with attendances. Fans have to come up, and usually have to stay the night or 2. It is pointless coming up to only see your team play. Stocking it in Leeds is within normal commuting distance for most of the clubs, so they are able to treat games as a normal home game.

Rugby Leagues Magic Weekend is coming back to SJP in May next year.
  7. Only just heard about this mate. My deepest sympathies goes out to you and your family.

In all fairness, they beat Burnley, and got a draw (lucky last minute equaliser) against Leeds, both of whom are this seasons favourites. The question is always going to be if they can sustain it, but if you are playing badly, whilst wither being a man down, or losing one of your key players to suspension and can still get draws away from home, then you are still doing well. Like I said, it will be down to if they can sustain it, and if they drop out of the top 2, how they respond.
  9. The hope was that in order to try and stay under what others are earning, to make it look like fair value, you would overcompensate and leave yourself well short of others.
  10. From last season. No one is a fan of it.

As I said though, you aren’t just demolishing 1 stand. If we work on SJP, it is going to be a rebuild. We are then talking about adjusting the footprint, and moving the pitch. At the very least, you would have 2 stands down at any stage.

To be honest though, we have already been told that even if it’s an extension, it will be more like a rebuild, and that really, a rebuild is the ‘minimum option’. Even taking away the Metro station complications, it won’t be a case of doing what was done for the Leazes end.

They will have to talk with Nexus regardless. If we want an increase in capacity, without the need of building over the Metro station, we would need to talk to them to make sure they can satisfy demand, and that they are running their system safely. With big increases in capacity, such as a new stadium, there will also be talks about increasing capacity at the station. This could mean anything from being able to double up both sides of the station with waiting trains after the match, or if we are talking about no budget stadium, even adding additional platforms for awaiting trains. With the capacity figures going round, I’m going to guess that a big part of being granted permission for a 70k-80k seater stadium, there will be provisions that as many people as possible make their way via public transport. This could mean the club pushing the Magpie Mover more, potentially offering it for free, or like I said, major re-configuration of the station. I would also anticipate that more shuttle busses are offered, especially after midweek and late KO games. As it happens, I think we will end up with a permanent fanzone park where the Stack is when we get our new stadium, however as I have said, the increase in capacity we are looking at is going to mean that we have to improve access to/from the station, and improve the Metro connection it provides. Edit: Also, the East stand is made of materials and a method that has a life expectancy of 50 years. The East stand is now 50 years old, and pretty much life expired now. The newest parts of the stadium are now 25 years old, and likely 30 years old by the time a new stadium comes around.

Aye, I read that article. It goes against a lot of what he’s previously said, and he kind of backtracks on the article itself towards the end. To sum it up, he simply says the club haven’t been in touch with Nexus, a structural engineer i got in touch with says building over it is possible. The club have told people working on the stadium project that there is no limit to the budget.

Yeah, Leazes Park/Castle Leazes isn’t going to change anyone’s pre-match plan. The good thing is that it will almost certainly lead to Barrack Road gaining some regeneration. Those flats opposite Leazes Park will come down, or be totally refurbished. I don’t think the Strawberry will see a decrease in math going fans heading to it, although so do agree that it’s a dive that wouldn’t have survived so long if it was opposite the Gallowgate end.
  16. If we had finished our chances, we could have won that game. Much like we could have got something out of the Fulham match, and beaten Brighton.
  17. 7 Champions League games on, plus half the Championship, and a couple of League One games, yet you picked to watch Liverpool. You deserve it.
  18. It’s honking. What happened to them playing in Green and White?

Nothing much. Just I was listening to it on the radio, apparently the majority of Man Utd season ticket holders were in favour of a totally new ground. Younger fans who were not season ticket holders were in favour of a redevelopment. It kind of goes against the stereotype of younger fans and non-season ticket holders only wanting a new stadium. We obviously don’t know anything more on the questions. For example season ticket holders could have been pressed more on it, I.E. Your season ticket price will go up if they stay at Old Trafford, or you had to also commit to cup games.

Wasn’t that majority actually from season ticket holders?
  21. Fulham & Brentford must surely go down as one of the shittest derbys?
  22. I haven’t read the article, but the subline there is a bit misleading. I don’t think anyone thinks Nottingham Forest will be up there towards the end of the season.
  23. Not really. I think the gap is going to increase again. You have Spurs with their mega stadium. Man Utd wanting to build theirs. Arsenal wanting to increase their capacity. Man City extending their stadium. Us building a new stadium. Villa will do something with theirs at some point. You are going to have a case where you have 8-10 clubs with a stadium capacity of 55k and over. At least half of those in time you would expect to have a capacity of over 70k. Matchday revenue alone is going to make it so other clubs can’t touch those clubs. I honestly think that in the next 5-10 years we are going to see a massive shift in the dynamics again. Even if we look at other clubs like Nottingham Forest, Leeds, Leicester, possibly Birmingham City who are looking at 50k-55k capacities. 10 years ago those capacities were big, now they will be classed as fairly moderate. What it will mean though is that the these clubs will almost guarantee themselves a place in the Premier League in future, and the gap between the Premier League, and the Championship will grow. We’ll end up creating a natural gap that in unlikely to be bridged, and that might ultimately lead to locking the Premier League. There will certainly be calls to do so.
  24. The players they had at the time had big names and were living on past potential. They were massively slipping, and being found out by everyone. They had a spending spree a couple of years ago and changed a lot of their players out. They were so much closer to rotting towards the bottom than becoming title challengers or top 4 contenders again.
