Being efficient with money doesn't mean being tight, which we clearly are. Simpson, the first choice right back, is probably leaving in January or for free next summer so replacing him this summer was a must. Considering he rejected the "final" contract months ago we would have known this was a priority. It all boils down to us continuing to be cheap, which is a scandal considering our net spend in the last few years. You call it "tight", many would call it not being moronic with money. It makes little sense to spend money on a player when the prospects of a much better signing soon becoming available are there, its a pretty simple concept to understand tbh. Just because you WANT something to happen doesnt mean its possible, situations sometimes have to be revised. You're talking with vague disatisfaction moreso than any well reasoned argument. Enough with the Q&A. We spent about £3million this summer If you think this is acceptable then you need to ask yourself where all the money goes we make. Like i said before, there is a considerable middle ground between being "moronic with money" and signing players we need, when we need them. You refusing to acknowledge this is bizarre and very blinkered to fit your/Pardew's agenda. Another injury or 2 tonight might wake you up? Does Mike trouser the cash?
  2. Who do they think they are? We are talking about Everton, aren't we?
  3. Golfers I would perhaps disagree with. If they don't play well and make cuts etc, they don't earn the big money. Once you get to the level of Tiger, Luke etc, you've played consistently well enough to justify your share of the money in the sport. I agree that the wealth is more concentrated within the top few in golf but I suppose that is always likely to occur in an individual sport. Perhaps a bad example. Having said that, here is the PGA tour prize money list - http://espn.go.com/golf/moneylist 50th best player is still earning USD 1.4 million in prize money alone and the 100th best USD 893,000.
  4. Indeed - all people in the entertainment/sports world are overpaid. Footballers are no different to actors, singers, NBA stars, F1 drivers, golfers etc.
  5. This exactly. My main gripe is the fact that clubs don't see this as an opportunity to lower or freeze prices.
  6. I strongly disagree, it is an amazing city in every aspect. Go away from the tourist areas and even towards the grubby slummy areas of Paris and it is still an amazing place. Pisses all over Amsterdam for me. I wasn't comparing it to Amsterdam - I was just judging Paris on the 5 months I lived and worked there and the occasions when I have been for a holiday. It is not, for example, a patch on Rome as a city.

    Hillsborough

Currently 17th in the chart. Great gesture and great cause, but I can't stand that song and could never ever bring myself to buy it.
  8. Paris is massively overrated.
  9. Did Pardew say something about Everton last season? I can't remember him saying anything. Jagielka just comes across as a bit of a tool - http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/everton-fc/everton-fc-news/2012/09/13/100252-31825328/?
  10. How can Gerrard say that isn't a yellow?? Typically brainless. Loses the ball and lunges in.
  11. Said it before, but my opinion of him somewhat plummeted after the various comments he has made since leaving us.
  12. Recounted an incident at Portsmouth before, but might as well put it in here again. I remember going to Portsmouth when Lua Lua was playing for them and heard some disgusting racist abuse aimed at Lua Lua from 2 guys behind me. I turned round and kept staring at them (with hindsight it would have been easier to say something, but never mind). One of them kept asking me if I had a problem and becoming pretty 'threatening'. Once I pointed out the nearby police officers they quickly stopped, but it wasn't great having them behind me for the rest of the match.
  13. From guardian article - http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/may/22/premier-league-season-ticket-prices Spurs season tickets - £730‑£1,845 Newcastle: £373-£717 So basically our most expensive tickets is cheaper than Spurs' cheapest ticket..
  14. I suppose it just shows how limited we are likely to be financially unless we either increase our match day revenue or our commercial revenue. Hence why they decided the naming rights for SJP were crucial.
  15. http://swissramble.blogspot.ch/2012/09/uefas-ffp-regulations-play-to-win.html interesting article on FFP. Hadn't realised how low our match day revenues were compared to rival clubs. We only generate 1.2 million a match, whereas Spurs with a capacity of 36,000 generate 1.6 million a match. Liverpool generate 1.5 million with a capacity of 45,000.
  16. Get the train from London Bridge to Gatwick or the Gatwick Express from Victoria. Much much cheaper. And quicker from London.
  17. Always remember watching us play at Highbury under Keegan when Arsenal beat us 2-0. They used exactly the same corner routine for each goal - corner to near post, flick on by Steve Bould, someone to then bundle it home. If we can't get it over the first man, maybe we should try this..

    Alan Pardew

Didn't Wenger get a 2 game ban for a very similar thing?

    Hatem Ben Arfa

Beardsley or Ginola. I reckon he is better than Ginola. Certainly when it comes to end product.
  20. I don't understand how any professional footballer can fail to beat the first man to the extent that seems to occur. It's baffling - I am sure I could do it when I used to play football, so why can't they? Am I missing something?
  21. yep im tired of seeing him putting his foot over ball while shielding the opponent from the ball with his body and basically just standing on the spot doing it not moving, Ba was guilty of doing the same thing. if you havent got a team mate to pass to, dribble away from your marker and look for a pass, what they did today was just lazy standing there all macho with their foot over the ball shielding, whilst backing into their marker almost like waiting to get spooned. its fair enough if we were winning and needed to waste some time on the corner flag, dont bloody do it when its 0-0 or 0-1 down ffs. You mean trying to hold the ball up and retain possession until teams mates are available for pass or would you prefer he ran down a dead end and lose the ball in a less macho fashion ? what i mean is look up look around team mates arent that far away, try turning, spinning away from your marker, football is pass and move basic stuff unless you're limited. I think if the option was on he or Ba would do that. Villa were closing us down quickly. ba and jonas were doing it for no particular reason, at times they did it when they could see a team mate to pass to, other times instead of beating their man who was on them they simply stopped dribbling, stood there and did that foot over the ball bullshit, lack of fitness perhaps, the jonas and ba of last season would have kept dribbling. Jonas does it week in week out Retain possession and hold the ball up? It's his default play, stand on the ball and shield it. It's fine sometimes, it doesn't make sense when there's no-one to shield it from, just buys the other team time. Cant say ive ever seen him hold the ball up shielding it from no one. Ill have to watch for it. It doesn't actually happen - so you'd be waiting a while.
  22. Have they though? They lost their most promising young player and one of their main goal threats (granted on the decline), and signed Naismith on a free, Pienaar who was already there, and Mirallas (plus a few squad players like us). Not much stronger if any, than us imo. As I said earlier - Everton are being massively overrated by people. Their starting XI really isn't that good.
  23. Everton being massively overrated by most I think. 6th for me - can't see Liverpool and Everton finishing above us.
  24. I still have a feeling something might happen. Not sure why.
  25. Only good things happened when Barton and Nolan questioned the ambition of the club. They left.
