  1. Very much agree with this - I'm not entirely certain that NUST is fit for purpose, but it seems odd to be complaining that they're not doing something that they're weren't set up to do. Maybe they need to morph into a protest group, but that's not what they are. Personally can't get my head round a load of non-members complaining about the actions of a member organisation - especially given that a lot of the same non-members have spent a long time disparaging NUST on twitter.
  2. Caveated by the fact that I don't want him to ever be involved in the club again... I actually thought Llambias began to get the club a bit towards the end. Could be mistaken though...
  3. Trying to work if there any managers that I'd prefer to have Bruce over. I'm not convinced I can think of one. Maybe Pulis? But even that's a stretch. At least Kinnear would offer some comedic value.
  4. It feels to me that within English football culture, we are always dancing around the edges of what happened at Wembley. I don't know if something needs to fundamentally change or not (or could even be changed), as no doubt lots of people don't see see any issue with getting absolutely battered before a game and simply regard it as part of the fan experience. And I totally accept that a football ground shouldn't need to be a sanitised safe space and the edge that comes with fervent support is a massive part of football.
  5. Definitely need to work a way to either control the game from central midfield a bit better and/or provide a bit more drive from midfield. The three of Rice, Phillips and Mount just didn't quite work for this game in the second half. Hopefully Bellingham can offer something a bit different there in the future.
  6. Grealish is clearly talented, but there's no clear evidence that he's better than any of Foden, Mount, Sterling, Sancho or, after yesterday, Saka. It's a bit of a coin flip as to which of those you play, yet when Grealish isn't picked some people are acting like Southgate has dropped a prime Maradona.
  7. Genuinely don't quite get the scale of clamour to pick Grealish. He's clearly a talented player, but it's hardly a great travesty he isn't being picked. If we are going to change any of Mount, Foden or Sterling, I'd actually rather bring in Sancho anyway.
  8. 100% - he'd be a great purchase for them. Reckon he walks into pretty much any team outside the top 6 and improves them a lot.
  9. Genuinely curious about this as I'm sure I saw something about this - what anti-competition cases has he won in the past?
  10. Genuinely baffled - just can’t see how this won’t be a complete disaster. Really hope the domestic leagues don’t cave on this.
  11. This. Or Little Tommy any more oxygen.
  12. That's why I hate fan based podcasts - they genuinely don't know any more than you and me and I have no interest in assisting them making money from airing their bullshit opinions. It's all so fucking desperate.
  13. NUFC twitter is just abysmal. Just a bunch of nobodies arguing with each other.
  14. Yep - both are shit. But I always found the joy of winning regularly in the Championship quite hollow and overrated to be honest. This was even the case under a manager like Rafa.
  15. No - being in the Championship is shit. Vaguely interesting the first time round, less so the second time, would be absolutely terrible third time round and we probably wouldn't come straight back up.
  16. Think people are underestimating Wilder. Wouldn’t be my first choice but he’s a hell of a lot better than Bruce.
  17. Wish we’d gone for Tuchel when he was Mainz. Clearly a very impressive manager.
  18. Such a good player - real shame he left. Our midfield looked immeasurably better with him in it.
  19. I don't think it read that badly re Rafa. It sounded like even his current coach has a different approach to Rafa and Woodman's dad. I think he was merely acknowledging there are different goalkeeping styles.

    Kevin Keegan

I met Keegan at one of his book signings in London. For all the cliches about never meeting your hero - the guy is everything you'd hope he would be. So generous with his time and makes you feel like he's genuinely interested in you. He insisted on having numerous photos with my family and made a big joke about standing on chair for a photo with me and my brother as we're both quite tall. He's just got such amazing charisma. Feel so lucky to have seen his team play (and Bobby's as well). We might have been shit for years, but you can't take away those memories.

    Kevin Keegan

I remember being strangely fascinated by that season, it was Ardiles as manager right? It was weird because he was not only trying to bring that diamond formation to Newcastle but he was doing it with kids. I actually really admired what he was trying to do, but it was suicidal to do it with YTS kids and unheard of signings....who were also kids. Yeah it was. To be fair to Ardiles, Smith had spent a fair bit before him and failed, Aediles didnt have a lot to play with. Alan Thompson came through that season, I think there was one or two others who were canny as well. He also signed a couple of forwards who were quite pacy but crap but can't for the life of me remember the names. Gary Brazil maybe, although not sure if that was a Smith signing, but there was another one who's name escapes me. Yeah he did, along with Clark, Watson and Elliott if I remember correctly. Brazil was under Smith, 89ish. Played about 40 games and scored 2-3 goals Ardiles signed a tall rangy kid who Oliver kept talking up because of his pace ( pace was a real luxury asset for a Newcastle forward in those days!) but can't remember his name. Will have to do a bit of googling. EDIT: found it, Andy Hunt. What a no mark he was. Didn't he go on to have an ok-ish career?
  22. Genuinely think I wouldn't watch a single match of any proposed Super League out of principle, but also because I'm not sure I'd care enough. The CL has already lost much of its appeal for me, so can't see myself being particularly excited by it. Might even call my actions a boycoutt.
  23. Gutted that Tuchel is going to Chelsea. Think he got a raw deal at PSG.
