  1. Joselu is a better football than Mitrovic imo. Our style of play doesn’t suit either of them mind. Too bad Gayle still hasn’t recovered mentally from his injury last season. He's technically better I agree, but he's a training ground champion IMO. He's got worse every game he's played, and his finishing goes to shit under pressure. Mitro's got more self belief, and I think that counts for a lot playing for a club like Newcastle. On the game itself, I think we might lose this 1-0. Two well drilled sides, but I think our back four has more potential for errors. He's in the team for the same reason as Ayoze. Other options aren't as intelligent and hard working as they are. You say "training ground champion", Rafa says team player. Missing a chance here or there is not that important in the big picture. https://www.unibet.co.uk/blog/football/premier-league/why-joselu%E2%80%99s-poor-goal-return-won%E2%80%99t-concern-rafa-benitez-just-yet-1.955264 http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/i-can-read-comments-rafa-13827888 That Unibet link is the most nothing article I've read in a while like. Joselu might somehow get better but there's been no signs of it happening the past few games. Rafa would obviously prefer to have a striker who can score goals on the books.
  2. It has me genuinely terrified for what the next couple of decades has in store for me.
  3. Never seen a man age worse than Simon Grayson like.
  4. All I can think looking at that is how much Tommy Down's breath will stink talking right into that other kid's nose.
  5. If we didn't have things like Brexit we wouldn't have people like Mick McCarthy. Massive fan of the guy like.
  6. Ah whey. Football's dead. Was a good innings.
  7. I'm probably in the minority but it'd proper feel like I was losing my club if we were bought out by a 'sugar daddy' like. I'd probably get over it pretty quickly when I realised I didn't have to watch Perez and Joselu every week like.
  8. Some of it is obviously overblown like, I mean he will have 2 personal physios because he's worth like £200m to them
  9. Yedlin's only just turned 24 like and Sunderland was he first real shot in the Premiership. EDIT: FWIW I'm not saying Rafa is bad at coaching players and improving them, I just think "Benitez is actively improving players" is greatly exaggerated. He's the kind of manager who can make shit players perform well for sure.
  10. I thought I was quick with my edit Clark instantly looked better than he ever has and has sort of just continued that back into the Premiership. I dunno if he is a better player now or not like, maybe he is, but Villa were absolutely shite for most of his career there.
  11. I don't think many have actually improved loads like. Lascelles obviously but he was a 21 year old centre back when we went down so him not improving was unlikely under any decent manager. Most of our players grew into the system and we now look very solid because of it, but I cannot think of anyone who wasn't in their very early 20s who actually looks a better player than at any other point since Benitez or they arrived. Clark could be argued but I think he falls under the 'better because he's been managed by a good manager in a settled team' bracket.
  12. The balance things was aimed at Mole tbh, I skimmed the thread and hadn't read HTT's post properly like.
  13. Actually I've just read HTT's post again Obviously taking half of Palace's squad and just throwing them into ours would be a horrific idea like
  14. It's hard to say who has the 'worst XI in the league' as you never have a clear picture (how much is Lascelles & Clark/Lejune's partnership down to ability, or Rafa's instruction for example) and many players are pretty much just interchangeable so saying X would play ahead of Y is meaningless as you could be saying the opposite a day later. The fact that we have an average of 43% possession whilst doing remarkably well is pretty telling like. It obviously isn't Benitez' m.o to so blatantly relinquish possession in almost every game like we are - to the point where Mark Hughes seemed to think he was Johan Cruyff when Stoke came here - he's doing it because he isn't confident we can control the game with the ball due to the pretty clear lack of quality. I just don't get how people can talk about a sides balance without taking into consideration that the only reason we look good is because Benitez has managed to sort us out. Put Mark Hughes in charge of this group of players and he wouldn't have a fucking clue what to do.
  15. I'm pretty sure almost any side in the league would genuinely be looking at our best XI and be thinking of taking 3-4 at most.
  16. Our team is only 'balanced' because Rafa has completely sorted us out like, it's the same as what has been said about Stoke and West Ham. Give them Rafa and he'd sort them out without drastically overhauling the squad. Palace have a fair few players who would improve us, no doubt about it.
  17. His ability in the air is mental tbh. Outside of the 6ft 2ers he's probably the best player we have in the air somehow. (Defensively as you say, he probably isn't going to be thundering many into the top corner)
  18. I just think he's shite at the role he has to play tbh. It goes for just about every striker that they're better with great support, but Joselu massively suffers without it from what we've seen. First 2 games or so he played he looked perfect for us but he seems to be getting further and further away from the rest of the team as the weeks have went on (not necessarily literally, but it feels like it). He's been completely anonymous since Stoke but there's definitely a handy player in there.
  19. Really can’t see how anyone could come to the conclusion he ‘makes us better’ like.
  20. There were signs of that last season like, where they looked pretty much unbeatable for stretches and then absolutely horrific in others.
  21. Surprised by Huddersfield mentions like, I think they look a lot better than most sides do after promotion. I thought they'd be a bit like Blackpool of 2010 but I think they look a lot more solid as a team than they did.
  22. The express have just made that up though. He's probably worth around £20m now though and he suits the way we play to a tee. We should have been all out to get him last January.
  23. I'd take Townsend back straight away like.
  24. Couldn’t pass, gave Palace several opportunities to break (which they couldn’t take), failed to tackle them, tried to foul them and he couldn’t even manage that I thought he misplaced a couple passes but other than that he seemed fine. He wasn’t great like and neither was anybody else, but when he came on I thought Shelvey noticibly was allowed forward on the ball more whether by instruction or not and we looked better.
