Some good points raised there. I think until we have a RW who can change games, score goals regularly weāll struggle to win away at the big teams. Get the point about pressing and work rate though.
-
Yeah goalkeeper is an uncertain situation if Pope gets injured.
-
And they have champions league
-
Have done for ages, surprised how many seem far more relaxed about this. If youād said to me a few years ago Murphy and Miggy would be our designated RW options going into the 24/25 season Iād have laughed nervously.
-
Howe isnāt going to play Barnes on the right (even tho he said he can play there last offseason) so I agree our most dangerous front 3 currently is Barnes, Isak, Gordon, no doubt about that.
-
Great to have a 3rd option striker now who is powerful and fast. I just hope Wilson isnāt injured so much that heās forced to play too much.
-
Yeah Guehi makes a huge impact on our defence and then we need another option for RW. Iād be happy with that what with Tonali coming back and the likes of Willock back fit too.
-
Hes a different player. I think heās a better finisher but he ls not as quick and doesnāt take players on like Gordon does. I could easily see him getting double figures in goals this season and if he hadnāt been injured I think weād have been in Europe this season. His and Popes injury last season was critical.
-
If Barnes is on form our best current option imo is him left and Gordon on the right against the top teams.
-
Completely agree. Weāve still got loads of dead wood we havenāt moved on and havenāt filled either of the two key positions everyone knows we needed to fill. Thereās still time but as it stands itās been underwhelming.
-
Agreed then weāll look at some kind of deal including loan option for a RW before the window ends.
-
No i think weāll score goals and if we sign Guehi then thatāll firm the defence up particularly with Pope back. Big games I still think weāll struggle to edge things at time with the likes of Murphy and Almiron but if we donāt have the ability to bring a RW in then finances clearly are very tight, far tighter than weād like. When did we last sign a RW ffs? š
-
No Iām happy with where things are generally, we actively try to recruit, push forwards etc. light years away from the Ashley era but unless key acquisitions come in this window it will have been a failure (and the last few werenāt great). Pressure on but I still have faith, thereās still time.
-
I have faith in them to get things sorted but pressure is on. Failure to cover the two main areas and the window is a failure for me.
-
Exacrly, this far into the takeover not to have upgraded that position with anyone would be extremely disappointing (if the window passes without a new recruit)
-
Iāll be disappointed if we donāt bring another RW in. Obviously chuffed if we can get Guehi over the line though.

Well yeah I get that, but if they sign Guehi then the available amount on a RW comes right down or isnāt available
-
Definite starter but we know that Murphy isnāt going to do this all season is he. Great lad in great form but remember yesterday was a pre-season game. Murphy isnāt going to bother the top teams particularly away from home.
-
I agree if you have to choose CB is more important.
-
Iām just talking about calibre of player thatās all. I agree Iād far rather have Gordon left wing (which still makes the Barnes signing an odd one particular as Howe was quoted as saying he can play right side). Iām perfectly happy with Murphy starting to begin with, he deserves it and is in good form. But three years into the takeover or whatever it is and to still have Murphy or Miggy as our RW options if thatās what itās going to be this season isnāt good enough for me. Thatās just my opinion and yes I get the point about right CB being a critical position to fill too.
