Btw we had better chances than Norwich in the second half as well, fwiw. They might have fannyed about with the ball inside our half for long periods doing nothing but pass it sideways and backwards but we still created the better chances in both halves and should really have scored more than just the two. By no means were we lucky to take all 3 points.

Like KI saying we were lucky on Saturday to take 3 points because Norwich were shit Mental opinion that
  3. You thinking of throwing in a Larson esque leg breaker? I've never been one for dirty knees

so answer me ian, let's assume tactically pardew IS withdrawing the team with the intention of seeing out a 2-0 lead, or a 1-0 as we've also seen pretty often...the opposition score 1 in the second half and miss 2 clear cut chances to score, gilt-egded chances you're telling me there's no element of luck in that scenario and that i'm stupid for believing there is? We've also broke on the counter and missed a couple ourselves, right? i'm not on about the norwich match, i'm just asking a hypothetical question so someone can enlighten me as to why it's stupid to acknowledge the presence of luck in a game of football i'm not a fan of being called stupid, you see I wasn't on about Norwich, but that's generally what happens when you play counter attack football. You sit back and defend then hit opposition on break when possible. Just in your scenario created we've gifted them two clear chances but haven't created anything ourselves. In the scenario you've provided i'd say we were fortunate to get away with them missing the clear cut chances but 3 points deserved. Slight element of luck but not enough to warrant the opposition a share of the points.
  5. Why's that? Because Santon and Dummett are ahead of him in the pecking order, obviously. I'm fairly certain Dummett is not ahead, like.

It seems to me it's more people moaning because Pardew isn't playing how they want us to play. They want us to dominate teams and go and win by 3 or 4 if the opportunity arises. Whereas Pardew has proven time and time again he's more than happy to defend what he's got, if a goal comes in a counter then great but defending the lead is priority. That's what people refuse to accept that we aren't playing how they feel we should be playing. Then the whole luck factor gets thrown in when the opposition don’t create so they must be shit so we got away with it or the opposition miss their chances so we got a let off.

didn't see it brett, just going off the radio and chelp on here that we basically followed our usual pattern in the 2nd half, conceded and it was nervy to the end - i know you reckon it wasn't but plenty reckon it was, which drug do you trust? chelsea were very, very wasteful on the break first half as i've said before - they didn't create much in the end, but a team of their class would normally make more of the positions they found themselves in The Norwich match was nervy because we essentially stopped playing and they had the ball in and around the NUFC box for long periods in the last 30 minutes. Brett is right, though. They created very little. This was more to do with Norwich being a terrible football team, but it has to say we were lucky not to concede twice is very harsh given what the other team created. The second half was so one paced, it was like watching a training match. I thought we were poor for the fact we were very sloppy in possession when we had the ball, sometimes we could have moved the ball quicker and broke but our passing desserted us. Norwich on the other pressed up higher and passed the ball in front of us, something we were more than happy for them to do but they couldn't do anything with it. We certainly had another gear in us, we probably should have scored a 3rd goal but for poor finishing.

He was lucky to be appointed for this job but that's about it. He wasn't lucky to finish 5th, he wasn’t unlucky to finish 16th and we certainly aren't currently lucky to be in 8th place. It’s been a promising start to the season performance and result wise, just hope we can continue to build on it and keep improving as the season progresses. I find it interesting that you chose 'lucky' for the 5th finish and 'unlucky' for the 16th. In what sense, KI? If i said lucky for the 16th that would kind of imply if it wasn't for his luck we would have got relegated So I used unlucky as a counter argument as if we should have been much higher but Europe/Injuries/Confidence cost us.

Deserved. He was the best player out there in the first half, and he's in good form. (didn't think i'd ever be giving a thumbs up for a post advocating a shola start)

Not convinced by your arguement. You're just saying his tactics are lucky because he doesn't play the way you way you would want us to play. If he likes to take leads and sit back and counter second half, that's his decision to make. If he likes to sit back from the start and grow into the game or counter attack when away from home, once again that's his decision. That's how he prefers to approach games, it can hardly be classed as a lucky style of play. we've been over it, it's not lucky if we professionally close games out and prevent the other team from creating chances, it's luck if we allow them onto us, they create chances and don't take them like the spurs game Norwich on Saturday? They created sweet fa really did they? Chelsea were restricted to minimal chances. Yes Spurs we did allow them some great chances and that was far too close comfort but it's not lucky the fact in one of the most important positions on the pitch, we've got it covered by a world class goalkeeper. Obviously you don't want him tested like that week in week out but Krul’s capable of getting you 7/8 points a season with performances of that stature.

    Papiss Cissé

He's got that reputation now though with linos for being prone to offside, so close calls, chances are that the flag will be raised. Even i didn't have a moan because it was Cisse, didn't even question it till i seen on here yesterday someone saying he was onside Obviously that's not right but officials have that in the back of their minds. Similar to a player who is prone to foul will more likely get a booking easier.

People would have said the same for Willo at the start of the season. He's won people around though. Shola is performing well and we are winning matches, he's putting a good case forward for himself.

Not quite sure where the luck theory ends and actual praise arrives. Still early days but if we keep players fit like we did that season we aren't showing signs to why we can't have another good go at it. I believe top 6 is out of the question this year unless Spurs/Man Utd really do go into free fall which i personally can't see happening but no reason to think we'll be below where we are now come the end of the season.
  16. Yep, it's a horrible way to look at things but when we aren't in the champions league or even Europe for the matter, when this situation starts to occur it's a case of enjoy them whilst they are here and feel privileged that we get to watch them week in week out for us. Starting to feel the same way about Remy.

After his performance against Norwich, are people content/happy for him to start against West Brom? I didn't want him starting against Norwich but i actually wouldn't want him dropped on Saturday now.

  19. Don't think he's been a regular, still recovering from his injury i think.
  20. Hate this clown, always centre of attention. Summed him up the Mirralas tackle on Suarez, any other ref would have had that situation defused about 2 minutes sooner.
  21. Cisse's arse last season scraped us the win and they beat us here the season before. Those two games don't fill you with confidence, i feel the same. Predicting a draw but we are still more than capable of making it 4 wins in a row. Be interesting to see how these get on tonight, they were unlucky against Chelsea.
