For me, being a decent person is more important than being a great manager. To have had someone in that role for so long who’s held themselves well counts for a huge amount. We were awful before him and a lot of the football under him in the last four years has been very poor. Would I like a manager who plays good football, of course. Have we ever experienced that with England consistently? Not really. Do I care a great deal about England? Only at the very end of tournaments and only if they’re playing well and deserve to win

You’re giving Kane a lot of credit and blaming Southgate for Kane’s performances rather than for the fact Southgate played him. Kane was second to every ball, he lost the majority of aerial duels, his movement to find space was awful. These are all things that aren’t just down to shape, they were down to him either carrying an injury or him being exhausted. We’ve changed the players we bring through. We have much more technically gifted players now to match teams like Spain. Our issue was entirely to do with how we set up. If you don’t try to win games you’re not going to win games

I’m not saying he’s done. I’m saying that the perception of him being in the same camp as Messi and CRonaldo is funny given their respective ages. I dislike Klopp a great deal but with these players he wins an international tournament
