Does Keith Gillespie come to many of our games?
-
Thirteen seasons for us in the premier league, 294 games, 43 PL goals. Amazing stats if he’d been a playing any other position than striker. Wonder what his average minutes played was across that 294 games
-
There was real beauty to the way he palmed the penalty into the roof of the net
-
He was, but was such a limited player compared to Hall. Hall is by some distance the best LB we’ve had in my lifetime
-
Wouldn’t call him shit, he’s fast, he can kick a football hard and keep it down and he can cross a ball very well. He is not technically gifted at all, he can’t shield the ball against a press and he has a limited range of passing, he has no particular dribbling skill. So, it comes down to the fact he has his uses in the final third and he’s maximised these. He deserves a lot of credit for that but he’s not good in the other areas of the pitch
-
He’s a one-way player. He’s more than just an exceptional striker of a football. He can drive with the ball and can cross a ball but he’s almost entirely useless out of possession compared to you average winger these days
-
Wat?
-
How on Earth is that a red
-
Not having this, he was not that player today. He went on a couple of quality runs where he outfought his man, left Chris Wood in the dust for one of our goals. He had a good game today
-
I could look this up but I’m sure someone knows the actual rules. Can you score directly from a throw in as the attacking side or does it need to take a touch beforehand?
-
What I don’t get with Schar is that his long-range switch passing has massively dropped off. Why is that? That’s not something that should go with age, his legs may go in terms of pace but he should still be able to spray passes about like he used to. I watched him today and he just wasn’t hitting it cleanly when he launched it out to the left and he’s done that a lot this season
-
Might give it a watch, hope he does well there
-
This does deserve more attention, he has a class throw on him
-
Can someone provide a theory for why we’ve played so poorly in so many second halves this season? That one was a carbon copy of others where we’ve not held onto the ball for more than three passes at a time countless times. It also mirrored other games where we’ve just been camped in our own half and looked incredibly terrified of the ball
-
Rest for me, even though I hate the approach. Just think it could be good to give players like Barnes and Osula more minutes and definitely Miley. Anfield is a graveyard for us and we could win with a full strength squad and if we were carrying momentum into the match but i can’t see it
-
I’ve said before that I think he’s second to Bruno in passing, although I think Hall is probably that nowadays. However, he’s still not on the level of Bruno. Clearly a fantastic player though and still got years of development to go
-
Think he’s been off it too much this season to be in that conversation. He’d be in it if his form matched last season. I liked him more today though, he was back to cutting inside neatly and driving us on in that first half. Much better from him
-
Perhaps vision is the right word, he is very good at seeing players and knowing who’s available and where to pass it. I just don’t think he’s shown that ability to slide passes in that cut through a back line like Bruno does. Miley’s general passing is extremely good
-
Think our best midfield is Bruno more advanced and then Miley, with Tonali sitting deepest. Bruno is our best slide rule passer and has the best vision. Tonali is the best defensively and snuffing out attacks. He’s also the best at increasing our tempo and getting the ball moving quickly, he can release the ball in any direction. Miley is just great at receiving the ball, holding it and releasing. He’s not got Tonali’s physical attributes or Bruno’s vision but he’s extremely good at holding the ball and feeding the ball out wide. He’s also got a quality strike on him. In games where we need to break down teams he’s a better option than Jow. In games where we need to defend against teams on the break a lot then Jow is probably preferable
-
His ability to hold onto the ball under pressure is incredible given he’s not that strong. He’s amazing in the air considering his height and his passing is as good as you’ll get in a defensive role. He’s my favourite NUFC player these days
-
Shame those chances didn’t land for Isak or Osula who have the legs to run thirty yards
-
Man of the match for me
-
Thought he was class save for a nervy couple of touches early on and that stray pass in the second half. Surprised by how good he is in the air. Obviously he’s tall but he looks so much stronger this season
-
Much better from Willock today. He looked gassed early in the first half so I wonder how his conditioning is. He was much more aggressive today and hungry for the ball and he did some excellent work in transition, really happy for him. Just needs to get into top shape
