Hope you're right, but it remains an open question as to why Bruce was in charge for today's game, really. Not enough info to comment about the quality of the advice they're receiving just yet.

I would take Rodgers/Potter, but this still can't be stressed enough. If either Lampard or Gerrard come in and fail to stop the rot, the media will do their utmost to make sure we "give them time" so they can stick around to finish us off. If someone like Favre comes in and it doesn't work out for whatever reason, it will be much easier to see them removed from the post.

Would happily take a potentially flawed foreign manager with a record similar to Favre for the simple reason that it will be easier to move them on if it doesn't work out or we reach a ceiling with what they are able to achieve. The danger you run with any domestic manager and especially a media favourite like Gerrard is the pressure to "give them time" well beyond what their actual achievements may merit, which has the potential to significantly halt some of the momentum that has/will be generated and the level of progress we'll be able to make in the next couple of years.

Even if we take that to be true, I'd rather have a slightly lower calibre of player with the highest possible calibre of coach than the reverse. There simply isn't enough evidence suggesting that Gerrard is tactically astute enough to get us to where we should be aiming to be in even the shorter term (e.g. looking towards the top six next season after more sustained investment).

Conte would be the kind of statement of intent appointment I would hope they are looking to make. If we have to go for someone domestic/less favoured, we could do a lot worse than to look at Potter or Brendan Rodgers. Would favour those two a hell of a lot more than Howe, Gerrard, Lampard, Southgate etc.

This is exactly how I'm feeling. It's so much worse for the fact that it isn't Ashley that has screwed us this time, but the premier league itself. In that context, I can't see a reason to continue to follow the club in any kind of meaningful way, however great my strength of feeling towards it.

Bump. I haven't watched a single second of NUFC in the season just gone, the departure of Rafa and appointment of Bruce was more than enough to ensure that. I did however retain a general interest in the PL (albeit a greatly reduced one). My relationship to the club, like some others on here, has become a peculiar mixture of apathy, detachment and contempt, probably best expressed in the desire to see the club lose, as the only apparent means of possibly arriving at something better in the future. Today's news surely puts paid to even that. Time to take my own advice from this time last year.
