What's ultimately going to decide our fate this season is whether they make the right appointment - not whether they have someone in before Brighton or not.
-
Gerrard shouldn't be anywhere near the list.
-
The defensive organisation was a lot better, which is about all you could realistically ask for in terms of improvements within the timeframe after Bruce's exit.
-
Krafth over Schar, bloody hell.
-
This is well worth a watch Really gives you a feel for his approach and breaks things down in quite a bit of detail on a tactical level too.
-
Just catching up, what a headline lmao Shout out to @Ando7, never doubted you
-
Hope you're right, but it remains an open question as to why Bruce was in charge for today's game, really. Not enough info to comment about the quality of the advice they're receiving just yet.

I would take Rodgers/Potter, but this still can't be stressed enough. If either Lampard or Gerrard come in and fail to stop the rot, the media will do their utmost to make sure we "give them time" so they can stick around to finish us off. If someone like Favre comes in and it doesn't work out for whatever reason, it will be much easier to see them removed from the post.
-
Would happily take a potentially flawed foreign manager with a record similar to Favre for the simple reason that it will be easier to move them on if it doesn't work out or we reach a ceiling with what they are able to achieve. The danger you run with any domestic manager and especially a media favourite like Gerrard is the pressure to "give them time" well beyond what their actual achievements may merit, which has the potential to significantly halt some of the momentum that has/will be generated and the level of progress we'll be able to make in the next couple of years.
-
Even if we take that to be true, I'd rather have a slightly lower calibre of player with the highest possible calibre of coach than the reverse. There simply isn't enough evidence suggesting that Gerrard is tactically astute enough to get us to where we should be aiming to be in even the shorter term (e.g. looking towards the top six next season after more sustained investment).
-
Conte would be the kind of statement of intent appointment I would hope they are looking to make. If we have to go for someone domestic/less favoured, we could do a lot worse than to look at Potter or Brendan Rodgers. Would favour those two a hell of a lot more than Howe, Gerrard, Lampard, Southgate etc.

What a fucking day! Keep getting hit by wave after wave of emotions - nostalgia, relief, hope, exhilaration, anticipation. As if I'm falling in love with the club all over again
-
Imagine giving a fuck about that man, honestly.
-
We have this man to thank for our PL status being retained this year. Let's hope this is the first year of Ashley's ownership where survival truly signifies something meaningful.
-
Bump. I haven't watched a single second of NUFC in the season just gone, the departure of Rafa and appointment of Bruce was more than enough to ensure that. I did however retain a general interest in the PL (albeit a greatly reduced one). My relationship to the club, like some others on here, has become a peculiar mixture of apathy, detachment and contempt, probably best expressed in the desire to see the club lose, as the only apparent means of possibly arriving at something better in the future. Today's news surely puts paid to even that. Time to take my own advice from this time last year.

Unpopular opinion: That RafaFacts twitter account is a necessary counterbalance to those within our own fanbase who do not give Rafa the respect he is due - for his time with us as well as his managerial career in general.

You honestly can’t understand it? Seriously?? People are sick of Ashley and want their club back. It’s pretty clear why people are doing it. Sorry it's f***ing sad, don't go, on't watch, protest but to actually want your team to get bet Therr it is again..IT ISNT OUR FUCKONG TEAM sad It’s completely sad. I’m utterly dejected by having to be this way. So why are you on a match thread then when you don't give a shite, weird I do give a shite. I want us to lose. I’m watching the match wanting us to lose. I’m posting about wanting to lose in the match thread. I don’t want to give a shite. Keep up.
-
Because losing is more likely to get rid of Ashley, I'd presume. Why post on the match thread at all then? This constant wishing to lose is just grating on me. I won't spend any money on the Toon, realise we need Ashley out, and clearly Bruce is a poor choice for manager. I get that. But I can't cheer when Newcastle gets beat or want them to get beat. A win for the team is a win for Ashley and that really grates on me tbh. This for me. I am and always will be invested in Newcastle as a team, just because I hate what we have and who we've become it doesn't mean I can just switch off and not care. I want back the club I grew up with, I long for the days where we're all trying (and likely failing!) to achieve success, not subsistence. Unfortunately to get that back, we have to lose now. At least that's something I can wish for, something I can get behind. I can't get behind us winning because it's a win for Ashley and it means nothing for the team as we're only aiming for 17th, and prolongs this fucking awful purgatory-like existence. This . In these circumstances, in which a sporting institution is deliberately stifling even the possibility or aspiration of progression, business as usual in terms of wanting the team to win is just untenable for me. I can't see how anyone taking a long-term view of things can look at it any differently really.
