Expected to feel nothing but indifference, but I do actually find myself hoping for a humiliating defeat. Must have accessed some untapped reserves of antipathy somehow. Not going to watch though, the thought of Steve Bruce standing where Rafa should be turns my stomach.

I thought I'd psychologically disinvested once Rafa left, but the the official confirmation of Bruce has still managed to leave me nauseated. Not sure I'll even be able to stomach taking an interest by willing/wishing the team to lose as in the Pardew/Mclaren days, don't know if that's more a reflection of the increased sense of futility of everything NUFC and a kind of fatigue following the club or just a recognition that my time could be better spent on other things. Think the best way forward is to distance myself from football entirely, really.

Many of the reported targets this summer have been far more underwhelming than the majority of players Carr bought to the club (for the first XI at least). The quality of the players linked has actually been more disappointing than the lack of activity thus far IMO. Value for money is still mostly to be found when buying from other leagues; I'd much rather have the likes of Sandro Ramirez/Roque Mesa/ Iborra than James McCarthy, Tammy Abraham and Adama Traore.
