I liked the look of him early on. But he is so slow and nowhere near agile enough. He makes Lascelles seem as mobile as someone like Varane. He is even worse in the flesh and has worryingly, started to look a bit panicked. He needs to be dropped for Clark (who hasn't been much better this season) as he just seems like a bit of a liability right now.

Didn't look great from him or Yedlin for the goal and he lost it a couple of times in dodgy areas. But we look a slightly more competent team with him playing and he is arguably our most important player right now.

I've heard a fair few comments about the second yellow ranging from 'good tackle, he got the ball' to 'he is a brain dead cunt, sell him now!' The first was clearly a yellow and it was a take one for the team type tackle, as Lennon was off on a counter and nobody in our team seems to have any pace, bar Yedlin. So I don't have that much of a problem with it. The second is a bit needless and it is clearly a bit of frustration on his part. But if he just makes no challenge and they stroll through to just kill the game. He would have got pelters from some fans as well. In conclusion. I'm not ready for him to be tarred and feathered just yet.

He did one good thing all game. The flick to Gayle, which was a really nice move. He can’t even pass the ball accurately or at the right pace. Doesn’t win headers, constantly on his heels, has a heavy touch and can’t hold it up. I don’t agree with the sarcastic cheers and applause. But he is our worst player by a distance, IMO. Which is quite a feat considering how shit we are

Personally, I think a winger with a bit of pace or a compotent number 10 is almost as important as a goal scorer. Say what you like about our strikers and they are a bag of shite. But our creative and wide options are just quite simply, nowhere near good enough. Although I suppose you can say that for basically the whole squad.

I kind of hear what you are saying, Pilko. But the more I think about it. The more I just think Rafa barely trusts any of the players and realises we don’t really have anyone good enough. He’s always loved his rotation and Liverpool fans I know say his subs and team selection will almost always leave you a bit baffled. First live game for me of the season last night and I can’t quite believe how bad some of our players are at this level. Forget our wage bill or what some of them cost. This squad has to be bottom three, if not the very worst in this league.

Aaron Lennon with a free header between Lascelles and Yedlin. Darlow with an awful ‘save’. Darlow then amazingly slow to get up and no defender reacts faster than Rooney. That goal kind of sums up our season. Shit defenders, shit keepers. Just all round, a complete pile of shit. We have about 2-3 players good enough to start and then a load of squad players and worse.

Unless we sign 2-3 in Jan, then we are fucked. No goals, no craft to actually break a team down and defenders and keepers who love to concede shit goals. Basically, the perfect recipe for relegation.

Half agree on the cross one. Because I would also argue it the other way. I find players not gambling on a ball being played in is a pet hate of mine. Sometimes the guy who is crossing it doesn't have a lot of room to work with and he just flashes one across the face of goal, with nobody even attempting to get on it. Everyone hovering around for the same cut back, that isn't even on. Then they just throw their arms up in frustration, like it isn't their fault. Despite the fact there are 2-3 defenders between them and the ball. I think there was even one against Chelsea, where Murphy actually overhit a cross and we had 2 players going front post and one loitering around on the edge. It ended up dropping back post, with nobody even close to it and could have been a tap in.

Fair play to Silva. He has killed him and hasn’t even had to mention the fact that he has actually won some trophies. Fat Sam seems to value “never being relegated from the Prem” above actually winning things. Complete and utter weapon.

Yep. Shows some really nice skill to get out of tight areas. But when he had the chance to be direct and take on his man with time and space. He seemed to lack confidence and kept making bad choices and cutting in. He obviously has the ability. As proven by that run near the end. He is faster than I thought.
