40 points is generally regarded as the safety mark, we've reached that.

That's a quiet summer for them tbf. They'll take that many Man Utd pensioners not to mention the high quality transfer window razing signings they'll stun the world and swoop in for from the relegated teams. Can never have too many relegated players in the squad remember, they're a bargain.

This is going to go spectacularly tits up. Quite funny that after all the fuss he's a bit of a fascist manager

People popping up to say stuff like this makes it for me. I did it last time too, I dont think I can stop.

    Loïc Remy

Looking like he would have been perfect for Pardew

Jesus wept, we had the exact same argument 26 pages ago, yesterday. This thread is a fucking abortion. http://www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php/topic,93975.6375.html
  7. Time to start talking about that million seater stadium on the moon again. Be fucking hilarious if NUFC sued Sports Direct over it like. Get Mike to write a sincere letter of apology to himself.

We weren't as good in the second half. Spudil never denied that though, so I never thought it was relevant. We 'weren't as good' because our opponents had a manager who could read a game and change things while we went into turtle mode to try and defend our lead again. Read the rest of that thread you quoted and you'll see why the 2nd part of my post was relevant because it's exactly what happened. Our manager that day was too tactically limited and lacking in belief so we dropped two points. Dress it up with stats about shots or quotes taken in isolation all you want. That's what happened.

Pardew puts on Shola because our bold and silly players wont stop kicking it long. Not as if he's known to like a target man throughout his career or anything Even if it's true then he wants shot with shit for not fixing it after the first, oh, 10 times say.

Daily reminder. You keep quoting it. What was wrong about it? From the West Brom thread on here.... So everyone agrees we were good in the first half. So Pardew can get the team to play well. Following the instructions they've been given all wwek in the build up. Or do you think they ignored him in the first half? If you're going to quote me, please quote the whole post: What happened again?

I think Sissoko needs to play deeper, drop him right in the middle more advanced than Tiote but deeper than Cabaye. Let him play the proper box to box role and Cabaye can sit behind our front 3 and create.

You missed my point entirely. Never mind.
  13. Should be a good game too. Come on Benfica.
  14. We've got craploads of central midfielders and very few who play naturally on the flanks (wingers or solano types). Definitely need at least one more striker aswell, better two unless we think Campbell is ready to be our third choice.

That would suggest you view the number of shots we've somehow contrived to spawn as an anomaly. It could be. It's higher than in the previous 2 seasons. It can all be contextualised. Someone raised the damning stat that only 4% of our shots came within the 6 yard box. Someone else that we've average 69 long balls per game. It's written into folklore that we've gone a year and a half without scoring from a corner. Seems to me people find a view and then are happy to hear facts that support their view...but will dismiss facts that challenge it. It's probably best to look for the reasons behind the facts rather than instantly dismiss them as anomalies....which they could well be. If we shot from the halfway line every time we had the ball we'd clock up loads of shots. It wouldn't be effective and I wouldn't want to watch it.
  16. Cup for me. I'd love us to win something and the prem isn't all that.
  17. Yeah, he's linked with Man United, Arsenal, PSG, Monaco, but he's not good enough for us. It's strange that these highly talented, sought after players come here and are suddenly shit. Maybe there's a common connection. In all seriousness some of our players may have woefully underperformed this season but i'm finding it hard to really judge them considering everything else.
  18. Conversion rate in 10/11 was 11% too. Over the course of 38 games I don't think it's a stat that can be explained away against flukes. Basically we don't have the quality up top to put chances away. Ba was a massive loss and Gouffran/Shola aren't big enough for his boots. If you apply Cisse's conversion rate this season to last season's stats you get a conversion rate of 9.2%, significant enough.

Aye, dodging question all over aren't I. There's a dozen of you and 2 of us expressing the counter argument. I don't think Pardew is capable of implementing any style other than keeping it tight. His set piece record is atrocious. But then we scored from as many set pieces as Arsenal last season. Should Wenger be sacked for his awful set pieces? We don't necessarily have to rely on them. Arsenal don't have to rely on set pieces because they're great at creating chances as a team, you picked the worst possible team to compare us to. We could do with something to rely on because we can't create chances and we concede loads of goals, but he's shit at coaching set pieces as well. Incidentally, what are his good points as a manager? That was the point of choosing Arsenal. We've scored more goals from open play than 10 other teams...despite THE PLAYERS having one of the worst conversion rates in the league for the chances we create. Arsenal are a more extreme example of a team who are "woeful" at set pieces, but compensate otherwise. I'm not really sure what your point is. We're bad at set pieces, we don't create many chances, we concede loads of goals. We have more shots on goal than any other club outside the top 7. We have more shots on target than any other club outside the top 7. Our conversion rate is the second worst in the league. Nearly half our shots were from outside the box, how does that compare to other PL sides? edit: wow, 55%, more than half

Your expectations jumped fromk 10th to 6th in a matter of minutes. Ashley better act fast or you'll bne demanding the title Ignore the fact we've been shit due to our end of season league position? Didn't we do this a little while ago......

  24. Think of Cisse's wondergoals last season and you can see how our conversion rate might be skewed. As I remember everything he hit was going in even if he wasn't getting a great number of chances. That was never going to continue indefinitely.
