Even if they've 'retired' they can still be called up. The retirement thing is more like a gentleman's agreement where the player asks not to be called up and the association won't call him up even though they retain the right to.

Well that went well. Not only will we still lose Shola for January, we seem to have managed to piss off the Nigerian FA and make ourselves look a bit silly in the process. This club ffs.

If the interview was translated incorrectly how come the french speakers on here said the same as what's been reported?

How long was his contract with Liverpool?

There you go Alan, fixed it for you.

Fuck knows what they'd make of our purple players.

Log on and 'Wow! 7 new pages in the Remy thread, something concrete must have happened!' *five pages of bickering about Demba's clause*

FFS man, this has not happened. And Ba leaving (if he does) is nothing to do with us, we want him to sign. Ian is hitting this on the nail imo. Yeah, I don't agree with Ian much but he's bang on here Ba leaving isn't anything to do with NUFC and all to do with his 'advisors' and financial motivations. This is an easy one to be fair. It feels wrong, don't make me hit you.

I'm not going to be grateful for any little scraps they deign to throw our way. We've needed a centre back for nigh on two years and an upgraded right back for just as long. I'll criticise them if they fail to improve and move us forward as a club. Ashley and Dekka for not doing what's needed to take us onwards and Pardew for the bullshit he peddles and his apparent lack of spine in this area. If they're not willing or able to move us forward then they should piss off and make way for someone who will.
-
I don't think that's an issue for us tbh. We're allowed £45m losses over the next 3(?) years and we're currently breaking even with an extra £30m a season to come starting next season.
-
If this deal is really worth 10 millions and Ba's not going Ashley won't spend 1 more penny in January. If he thinks next season's TV money windfall could be in jeopardy then I think he might. Add to that the fact that our reported targets are on expiring contracts and so could be bought on the cheap and I think he'd go for it.

Fair play to Gullit like. His time here was a bit of a disaster but he does come across as a nice, honest, likeable bloke. Maybe at another point in our history he could have done well for us.

Here we go with the english oppression again. The scots demand to be heard you southern colonial bastard.

Not really. Some people, myself included, argued that whilst we didn't strengthen sufficiently, we also didn't lose any of our important players, so it wasn't all bad. In hindsight not getting in a centre back knowing how unrealiable Steven Taylor is, and hence having to rely on Williamson as much as we do has hurt us the most. Other than that I don't think you can attribute our poor season to the transfer window failures too much. Poor player form, Europe and injuries/suspensions have all contributed far more than our ultimate failure to bring in someone like Debuchy if you ask me. Chalking that up as 'hindsight' Hindsight ffs. That's from June 2011 in a thread where the options at CB and RB were listed as: Centre Back Coloccini Williamson Steven Taylor Perch Kadar Tavernier Right Back Simpson Perch Steven Taylor Ryan Taylor Gosling Tavernier So after about 18 months and 3 transfer windows we're in a worse state in those positions despite the fact every man and his dog could see we needed to strengthen there.

Mike Williamson and Danny Simpson. Go get em champ.

Surely more of a retirement/graveyard club than feeder...there's more careers died there than grown. Sunderland are listed in Man Utd's accounts under the pension fund section.

Statistically if you compare their premier league tenures at NUFC Pardew comes out on top in Win % and points per game. Hughton bests Pardew in goals scored per game.
