I always hate playing against Manu, the hypocrisy from everyone on a television set is unbelievable. Smalling should have gone and the penalty was stonewall and obvious, yet they drag it out for 10 minutes discussing it and finally agreeing "Smalling gives the referee an excuse". Fellaini had far too many chances before he got his first yellow, and was lucky to stay on the pitch as well. They didn't even show the last penalty incident which I felt was very clear, and the Janmaat one was a penalty even though not that easy for the ref to give. What pisses me off most though is how our side acts, its almost like an inferiority complex. You never see any leaders contesting decisions or putting pressure on the referee to do the right thing, its like we have a team of pushovers with perhaps the exception of Janmaat. You see Rooney putting pressure and letting the ref know right away and it works. We need someone like Kevin Nolan in the side, preferably with a bit more ability. Wijnaldum has to start in that role the rest of his life, he makes such intelligent runs and we have actually had more possesion and an equal amount of chances against Arsenal and Manu now. If we play like that against worse sides we will be ok, but then that's a pretty big if.

Aye. LB being top priority IMO, as Dummett is utter garbage. So true, spend 10m on a strong and quick lb that has the technique to play football as well as defend and the team is suddenly far better.

Is it just me who thought we were ok? De Jong, Wijnaldum, Mitrovic and Sissoko all missed big opportunities, and they scored from one great strike that Janmaat could have defended better. Dummett was given the runaround most of the game making the need for a proper left back apparent in January. I thought Anita had a good game. I just hope Cisse isnt in the squad next week. He just never looks like doing anything but giving away obsession. Straight after he was subbed we looked more dangerous, though I quite like De Jong.

I agree that would have been fine as well. The midfield were terrible today, we desperately need a central midfielder who can pass in January. The couple of times Wijnaldum tried to do a one-two and then go running off on a counter attack Anita and Tiote just screwed up simple passes.

Worryingly Pardewesque sub with Cisse there. Surely anyone who's seen Cisse play would know exactly what he gives you when the team is struggling to do anything with the ball. Offside, ballbouncing and stopping the counter attack. If we had put Thauvin on and kept Perez up top a little longer instead we might have ran at them a little bit at least. Perez isn't quick or strong enough to run through defences by himself down the wing.

I like Perez the most behind a striker, and if Gouffran is up-front its fine by me. He used to be able to score goals once in a while before he got leftbackpardewed. He is not a winger by any stretch but he was brought in as a backup striker if you ask me, and with Cisse out its either him or Riviere., Shouldn't be too much of a difference, hopefully he can make some runs to make space for the more gifted players like Perez/Cabella
