Good shout. I can’t think of any more recent.

When was the last time we beat a club to signing a player when it was as public as this one?
-
Why play Dier at centre back rather than actual centre backs?
-
Norwich fans aren’t happy. That’s a good sign.

Just caught up with this. Would be a really good buy for us.

Decent thread on him here

Top work to our plane spotters guessing this before any journalist mentioned it ?
-
I’m assuming most clubs won’t have their own plane like Ashley and will have an expense to charter flights. Do the club pay Ashley to use his plane? I’m guessing he isn’t going to take the personal hit on that.

Seems to be a couple of murmurs about it on twitter.
-
Apparently I now want us to sign Wilson given Villa look in pole position to sign him.
-
Dunno if I read to much into it but they used a backdrop of what could have been our stadium when talking about two Pl clubs trying to sign a player and one club had an in-depth plan for him whereas the other didn’t or however it was put. Screams of Bruce and Charnley.

Found this pretty interesting. You also know that the poor examples listed is exactly how we do business.

Did he play as a 10 one game and looked decent or have I made that up?

Weirdly said they wouldn’t be pursuing Staveley for answers despite being introduced. They’ve now dropped any mention of the takeover since. Presumably because it’s over and there’s nothing left to discuss? PIF formally withdrawn and the others confirmed as time wasters Edit: made a right arse of them quotes! Staveley asked for fan action and the fan base delivered. She said there was something they maybe could do. They then went silent. I personally don’t see the harm in asking. If it’s dead tell us. I think actions have spoken louder than words now though and there’s nothing at all out there to suggest anyone is trying to make it work. The PL didn’t want it and pif didn’t want to jump through the hoops set. We deserved an answer though and I don’t think the people responsible for asking those questions really did enough to provide those for us. Edit* doubled down on arsing them quotes up as well ?

Still absolutely staggered reading that that at no point have we been given an update/reason/statement whatever you want to call it on why. Nothing from any party following it all falling to bits. Even more baffling everyone has just dropped it and moved it without answer. Can NUST not swoop into action? Weirdly said they wouldn’t be pursuing Staveley for answers despite being introduced. They’ve now dropped any mention of the takeover since.

Why are we still trying to sign centre backs? Can we have Graham Carr back please ?

Think I’ll be in the minority here but I think this is a bad transfer. His form wasn’t great for Bournemouth last season going off the reaction to him and how he decided to leave them in the shit - which was awful. We’ll be blowing a large portion of our budget on his wages because that’s how Mike works, he was rumoured to be wanting 80k per week last I saw. He plays his best football in the same position as ASM does. Why make someone a top earner at the club who isn’t as good as the player who plays in that position? Most importantly though we are guaranteed to have a shit season this year and anyone who’s confident that we’re staying up is lying to themselves. Is this guy really the type of player you want to fight for your club? I’d rather we ended the Joelinton as a striker experiment and used him and ASM as your left sided players then blast out budget on a striker that we do desperately need. Given the transfer now looks likely I hope I’m way off here.

I think Richie + £10m has got to be seen as a good deal for both sides? Given his big injuries they’re off their head if they think they’d get £30m for him.

Newcastle United: Karl Darlow (Mark Gillespie 70), Javier Manquillo, DeAndre Yedlin (Paul Dummett 60), Jamaal Lascelles, Florian Lejuene (Federico Fernández 60), Jacob Murphy Matt Ritchie 70), Isaac Hayden, Sean Longstaff (Daniel Barlaser 70), Christian Atsu (Ciaran Clark 60), Miguel Almirón (Andy Carroll 60), Allan Saint-Maximin (Henri Saivet 75) Christ

Looking at a couple of pics it looks like we’ve played a lot of first team players too. Grim.

I’ll be in the minority here but I think that’s a bad deal for us. I think we’ll need leadership this season and it’ll be too easily for some to lean on the failed takeover. As long as a Ritchie is a squad player rather than a guaranteed starter he’ll be too beneficial to swap for a player that looked like he could be finished after that knee injury. I’m assuming it would be him plus money too.
