Exactly, it means very little we still have all players from last season plus more and it seems we are keeping the ball better now. It is absolutely nothing to be concerned about and when we beat Spurs on the opening day all this will be forgotten. Not even sure why people are concerned to begin with, last pre-season was a lot worse than this one and look how that turned out.

I thought he was doing things simply in the first half keeping possession tick over but with Jonas there he does'nt need to do that. He should be trying to drive forward and create things in the final third in his role quite frankly.

Indeed. Keeping possession very nicely but it's going nowhere. Surely a personnel issue though? put Hatem and Cabaye in this system instead of Vuckic and Obertan and i don't see it being a problem. Was the same story last season even with those 2 in the team. It's not a flat 4-4-2 though, this is a diamond 4-4-2 ala Milan not quite the same. Not sure tbh, but it definitely isnt a flat 4-4-2 either Jonas has spent 90% of the match in the middle so has Vuckic, while Obertan seems to be moving between the centre and the right. I think with Cabaye and Hatem instead of Vuckic and Obertan it would work a lot better, at least we are keeping possession reasonably well. We have wide men who come inside all the time, now if the full backs dont overlap then its just one big mess with no width and the attacks brakedown. 4-3-3 and if Demba gets the hump, sod him (only in the system sense) the team is more important than his ego. It would improve the team, but a different formation would improve the team more imo. Agreed 4-3-3 is the way to go, but Pardew seems against it for some reason.

Yep, also we seem to be improving in ball retention and with Cabaye, Hatem and hopefully Debuchy coming in it will only get better. On a side note set pieces continue to be sub-par, not the delivery as such but the players never seem to get near it for some reason. Maybe Carroll might be needed after all

Quite like this diamond 4-4-2, add Cabaye and Hatem to it and it will look even better. Also there's something surprisingly pleasing about just hearing the crowd noise instead of commentator's meaningless crap all over the place.

btw any news on why Marveaux hasn't made the trip? as for Vuckic i would like to see him play a bit deeper i have always been more impressed with him when he's played in a deeper role than when he plays off the striker.

It might take a while yet, but I think we'll get who we want because of that. Aye, the will of the players in question will make it happen in the end personally. That might have to be right until the end of the window but the signings Pardew want's will happen IMO.

The kid's we have signed have no relation to the signings want. Pardew has been quoted as saying he thinks we will sign 3 players " of considerable pedigree" Good, Amalfitano and Bigi don't have " considerable pedigree". If we do want a DM ( which seems likely) and we don't buy Anita then we will look at one of the other targets as Pardew said he has 2 or 3 targets per position. As for those positions i think it's a RB, DM and a forward. It's a big risk but just by reading quotes and reports i think we are taking the risk that Saylor will stay fit.

Good, hopefully it turns out to be true. I'm sure Pardew is aware as anyone that we can't stand still.
