    Steve McClaren

Haven't posted for ages. (So p***d off with everything NUFC). I still won't go back until I see real evidence of investing in true growth and development in the club. However, I think McLaren deserves to be given a chance. Yes, he has recent failings. However in his career - he also had huge achievements - both as a coach and manager (no need to repeat them). I still don't believe a word about what the FCB says - actions truly do, speak louder than words!!!! But, at least Carver and Stone leaving suggests that thing might be moving for the better. I think supporters should get behind the new head coach at the start of the season, as long as there has ALSO been progressive investment in the woefully under-strength and short of numbers squad. BUT, I'm not holding my breath!!
  2. I'll miss Santon. I had to check my older posts - December 2012 I penned a song about him. I said at the time that he had been just about our most consistent player that season. Things did start to slide however, both performances and the injuries. For me though, it really is just bizarre how so many players hit a peak and then drop off significantly - we can all name quite a few! Will this change now that Pardew has gone? Who knows. But if in a few short weeks Santon is getting regular starts in Serie A, and is high up the rankings like Mbiwa, then it should give an absolutely definitive answer that something is / has been very, very wrong in the coaching / playing side of the club. There's bugger all anyone can realistically do about the running of the club by the fat man, evidenced again by the loss of another good, young footballer. But hopefully changes will start to happen on the coaching / training front. Not that I'm holding my breath!

Sorry, I should have added 'couldn't expect ..... under this regime'. Of course we could get a good manager mid-season. It's just Ashley will never spend money to buy out a contract, and do we really think he will ever spend to get a GOOD manager - at any time? It's Ashley's regime that I despair of.

    John Carver

I'm not saying that I fully support Carver being (temporary) manager - I certainly don't think he has the credentials to get the job full time. He hasn't covered himself in glory with his recent behaviour, and is definitely tainted by his association with Pardew, Ashley etc. The negative / uncreative way that we have played for a long time adds to concerns about his coaching ability in the here and now. However, if we think back to when SBR was here, he was hugely rated as a coach, and I recall many people, myself included being very disappointed when he left after Sourness came (and what a great manager he was!) Has he been misquoted over SBR and Gary Speed being with him? He worked for SBR under great times and coached Speed during this period. Speed later took him on as coach at Sheffield United, so perhaps whilst a little misguided, what he said wasn't actually as bad as it's being viewed here? So no, I don't think he's the right man for the job and his behaviour towards the fans at Southampton was very poor. However could we really expect a better appointment mid-season when Pardew's departure was so unplanned? He is undoubtedly Newcastle United through and through, so I suppose it's only natural that he would want his chance. I think we will struggle badly for the rest of the season, but I don't think that Carver is the enemy here.
  5. Oh, the irony of it all. Quite hilarious that Pardew leaves of his own accord, and the FCB will get compensation for the utter fraudster finally leaving. It really only could happen at NUFC. Regardless of who the next manager is, at least Pardew will be gone, and there will be the hope of proper football being played for the first time in many years. Of course we now need to wait and see who gets sold in January, but for the time being, it is a very, VERY happy end to 2014!
  6. I've been a very interested observer from Greece. Typical bloody Cisse - but good for him personally. Don't worry about the result - he would never have been sacked today. It will come in time, relegation will happen too. Shame on the 'silent majority' who call protesters traitors for wanting us to lose.
  7. Wrong. Me, The Guv and my other son have 3 weeks in Oz watching the British Lions!
  8. Confident that Arsenal will beat Wigan on Tuesday, because they have to for the Champions League. Unfortunately they will also do the same to us on May 19th for the same reason, so we must get at least a point on Sunday. However, as we have 2 excruciating days to wait until Wigan's game, I will sleep much better, and feel much better if we get all 3 points against QPR. Regardless of how badly we have done this season, how negative Pardew's tactics seem to have been and our abysmal away form, surely the POTENTIAL quality of our lot must mean we can beat a relegated bunch of money chasers?
  9. Debuchy, Tiote, Taylor and Gouffran are available and Haidara and Marveaux didn't play 90 mins as well Hatem to come off the bench. That shouldn't even be close to an excuse, that is 7 players who should be completely fresh or close to it. Agree but, many also coming back from injuries - match fitness matters.
  10. The only thing that worries me is the effect of the game on Thursday night. Lots of the players looked physically drained. I know they will all be up for it, but this game starts 62 hours after the end of that one. Substitutions could be the key, despite our players generally being much better.
  11. Great team. In Gran Canaria and relying on you all for updates!
  12. Win by 2 goals and we could go up to 11th. Come on!
  13. Who wants an FA Cup run anyway? Absolutely spineless performance, my heart goes out for the supporters who spent hard earned money to go down there. Regardless of injuries, suspensions and whichever other excuse Pardew wishes to name, why can we go out and attack against manure and Arsenal , score 6 goals (albeit conceding 11), but not play with any tempo or spirit against Brighton, or all those other teams who have beaten us in 10 of the last 12 games? Norwich away next Saturday - pity help us if we lose.
  14. I would love us to have stability, however the point here is that if we lose today at home to QPR, that will be 7 league defeats out of 8. If we lose against Manure and Arsenal, that's 9 out of 10, and a very strong chance of being in a relegation spot before New Year . Manager of the year or not, who could ever be allowed to stay under such circumstances? I hope today that Jonas has been dropped (with a few people with a decent shout of being picked ahead of him), otherwise that really does show that Pardew has no idea at all, and is scared of upsetting his 'big name' players, despite many of them not delivering at all this season. Something needs to change, it would be great if it wasn't the manager because it starts to turn around on the pitch, but what is going to make that happen....
  15. Aah yes, I heard his name pronounced on the radio as 'Daveedey' instead of Daveed (as in Ginola). If it is Daveedy, then it would go very well as That's Daveedeyyy... Apologies for how this must look, but getting it to fit is important.
  16. Think that's the new take on the Ginola song, which is something like "He's from the land where they drink champagne but he's in the toon so he'll drink brown ale". Not 100% like. Appreciate the comments, but it's also about putting a song to an Italian tune, to show him he's appreciated .... He says some great things about being in Newcastle ... And if there's anything better to rhyme with Toon than Broon? Otherwise the first line's a bit fooked.
  17. I'll keep writing then .... But hopefully not include the ting aling aling aling?
  18. For me, Santon is probably the most consistent this season, and a real shame there isn't a song for him. What about this? To the tune of That's Amore (Dean Martin) but a bit faster obviously. From Milan to the Toon And he likes to drink Broon Davide Santon He is fast, he's got flair He is strong in the air Davide Santon He can dribble, he shoots Wears Italian suits Davide Santon On the left or the right He's a great black and white Davide Santon
  19. Worrying league table. If we don't get 3 points against Wigan, real, real likelihood of being in bottom 3 by 2013.
  20. Agree with Yorkie re Tiote. A large part of our failures this season, in addition to negative set-up has been the performances of Tiote, Cabaye, Jonas and Cisse being nowhere near last season. Most of other players have also been inconsistent. Complacent and people need to be dropped? Worried about quality of the summer signings in midfield, I too would like to see Gosling get a run in team. Liked look of Abeid when he came on, and pleased to see Marveaux score. The team aren't playing well or getting results. It would be good to see Ashley put pressure on Pardew like other owners. #kickupthearse
  21. Some good bits from Simpson but look at his defending. Sat in the Gallowgate, his man must have got 80% of crosses in!

    Hatem Ben Arfa

Stayed off here most of the summer. First post of the new season has to be about HBA. So many good posts on here about him, and what he brings the team in terms of skill, excitement, work rate and end product. If he stays injury free and plays most of the games, I think this could be a very, very special season for NUFC.
