    Football pet hates

Do you think anyone who moves to Madrid from another country ever becomes an Atletico or Rayo fan? Guy I know teaches English there and has suddenly become a "massive" Real fan. Just seems cheap as fuck.
  2. I did (know no-one), enjoyed it but never been back sinse. make of that what you will. edit, yorkie was such a psuedo pro aswell, making everyone do warm ups, you know like shuttle runs etc instead of just taking shots at the keeper. Love that. Sounds like a good time. The post-match drink, not the game.

Diego Fagundez wants to get his U.S. citizenship so he can play for the national team http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2013/10/23/new-england-revolutions-diego-fagundez-confirms-hes-seeking-us-citizenship-s
  4. For the fee they paid he should probably have scored eight already, disappointing. Have a feeling Liverpool won't feel so butthurt about the whole Andy Carroll thing after this. Or I could be really, really wrong. Even if Bale replicates last season's form over the next three seasons, he's not worth what they paid for him. Especially when Ozil, a markedly better player, left for less than half the price. Anyway, old, re-hashed debate. Carry on.
  5. Pata's been spittin' hot fire lately.
  6. There have also been several incidences of racism towards players of African descent in Italy, Spain, and Portugal, yet Lisbon will host the CL final this year and Madrid and Rome have done so in the past five years. They even gave Poland and Ukraine the past Euros, despite their history of violence and racist behaviour. There are legitimate concerns in Russia of course, but people should stop pretending they care about this racism. One-off incidents of racism ≠ institutionalized racism. That doesn't excuse racist fan behavior in western Europe, mind. Also, that last sentence is utter rubbish, particularly if it's directed at me. Not towards you at all. Just European football in general. If we are being honest a majority bigger football nations in Europe have had overt displays of racism from crowds in recent years. Of course there are differences, Deuce, but nothing about tonight was institutionalised or different from what we see throughout the season, so what is your point? There just aren't the same kind of rabid, overtly racist and violent supporters' groups in Western Europe, at least not any who are implicitly (or explicitly) condoned by the authorities. You'll get the odd few dipshits who'll rip off some racist bullshit, but it's been years since football on this side of the continent has seen entire sections drop 'Heil Hitler's' or chant like monkeys with regularity. Russia has a lot of work to do before 2018 to convince me the environment won't be toxic. I'm sure they'll just paper over their problems with a thin veneer of rainbows and bullshit. Luckily, those most likely to cause trouble at the tournament will hopefully be priced-out of the ordinarily high-priced matches.

  8. Reports of monkey chants directed at Yaya. So glad we gave them the World Cup in 2018.

    Sir Alex Ferguson

Gerrard and Lampard have never been world-class Come on.
  10. Nobody's going to keep them up. They're nowhere near good enough to be there, and of the two players mainly responsible for getting them there, one is at Man Utd and the other has a cruciate knee injury. They should just try to enjoy this season and attempt to use the massive PL cash that they'll have compared to other Championship clubs to go down, build a stronger squad and try and come up again the year after. You say "his record is poor" - that Blackpool side he brought up and very nearly kept up had been amongst the favourites to be relegated from the Championship the year they were promoted. There's only so much a manager can do. Not quite. I said his PL record is poor. Which it is, as that Blackpool side, despite nearly staying up, were relegated. Close maybe, but still not good enough. I don't think he's a bad manager by any means, as he's gotten two Championship sides promoted in 3 years. He's just not a great choice for a newly-promoted side looking to stay up. I agree, there is only so much a manager can do. Asking Holloway to keep them up was asking too much of him. Even if they are a poor team destined for relegation, they should still make every effort to stay up while they're here. They really have nothing to lose by going for broke.
  11. He used to be, we've got far better defensive options than him now though. EDIT: If you're talking about a back to the wall defensive plan (which surely is the only reason why anyone would start Jonas), something like this would be much better Anita Tiote Cabaye Sissoko Gouffran Cissé/Ben Arfa We should never play that formation, even when trying to defend a lead.
  12. Holloway wasn't going to keep them up and his track-record in the PL is poor. Why keep him?

Orlando should be a favorable enough location to attract big-name foreign players, who otherwise seem to consider only LA, NY, or Seattle.
  15. Outside of a couple good seasons for Standard Liege and some stellar performances for the national team, he's had a pretty forgettable career. Plagued by injuries though too. Thought he might try to make the jump to MLS. We'll see how he does at QPR.

Actually the same happened for Seattle, Vancouver, and Portland as well.

Wonder what they'll do if any rebrand of logo/kits/colors. Have they done that to any of the other USL to MLS teams? Adidas MLS kits are class, looking forward to that with Orlando on it. I'll be getting some class season tickets as well. Hope they don't touch or modify anything to the Fio style home kits. Montreal got a new badge and kit overhaul. I imagine something similar could happen for Orlando. Just a little touch-up.

Looking forward to those Fiorentina-esque kits.

Great news for Orlando. Should fast-track them to expansion in 2015.

Jermaine Jones looking to make the jump over the winter. Writing was on the wall for him when Schalke brought-in KPB.
  21. Looks like a young Anthony Quinn.
  22. What's that, insubordination? Make it 5 games. You're only hurting the team here.
