Get in, we might finish 8th instread of 9th
-
Anyone know the details for Monday night? Will it just be the usual £3 on the door, or will they hike it up? Will Sunderland fans have their own end? What sort of attendance do you reckon there will be? I will probably go to this.
-
Good question, which would you choose in their situation?
-
Strongest team possible IMO. We have never been in a strong a position to go for the cup for a good few years. We have a decent side and with the right draws could go a long way. Realistically (especially with Spurs' win the other day) we are going to finish either 8th or 9th - battling for 8th with Southampton. Everyone below Southampton will still have relegation on their minds, every team above Newcastle will have some sort of league/champions league etc to go for. I would much rather we rested half the team against Man City than Cardiff personally.

Donaldson (ex Newcastle) just put Cambridge 2-1 up. Think that's this game officially over as a contest.
-
Nowt wrong with that, I'm watching this one as well, plenty of drama. You would imagine Halifax will try and spoil the game as much as possible from now, not that you can blame them mind. Very impressed with BT Sport's general coverage.
-
Yep, think it is an 8.30pm kick off UK time - are we on the same time zone? I will be watching that game on a stream. I see you are 1/3 to win - basically if you put £3 on you would get £1 back plus your £3 stake, Guimaraes are 9/1 at home
-
Cracking stadium you have. Unlikely admittedly, but it would be great if you reached the final of the champs league next year on your own patch

Thanks. What's the deal with the email address? does it not like @gmail @hotmail ones?

Really pleased with this draw. At the time, i was gutted. Like most i wanted Basle, and in terms of progressing Fenerbahce and Rubin would have been 'easier', but as most have said this is what European football is all about - a chance to play against a genuine top club, with great tradition. It will be hard to porgress, but should be a great experience in both matches. Where would you place Benfica with some of the other giants we have faced in the past 10-15 years? Certainly in the same bracket as Barca, Juve and Inter me for.

I would like to add Guy Mowbray, Jonathan Pearce, Mark Bright, Clive Tyldesley, Andy Townsend and Peter Drury to this post. i personally think mowbray is the best either the bbc or itv have to offer

what site is this off? could be useful for the next 2 nights

a 3-2 denmark win will so both teams advance regardless of the other game, which would also mean denmark topping the group. doubt that will happen though. im gonna watch portugal on the box and have the germany match muted on my laptop. if portugal win tonight then germany are out if they lose by 2 goals, 1-0, or 2-1, BUT a 3-2, 4-3 win will put them thorugh. denmark out if they lose, or draw and portugal atleast draw. holland out if they dont win by 2, but will go through with any 2 goal win assuming denmakr dont pick up a point. complicated stuff.

a s*** rule relating to 2 competitions is still a s*** rule It's not a s*** rule though. You know at the beginning that there's 4 places for the Champions League and 3 places for Europa League. You know the criteria for getting in to both from day one of the season. Eh? There's only one league place for the Europa League. It's completely different. And there's only 4 places for the Champions League, doesn't state that 4th place automatically gets it but you assume that the winner comes from that 4...which happens most of the time as well with at least one of the cups so finishing 6th is 95% of the time a safe assumption that you'll be in Europe. not quite the same though - when you look at league tables throughtout the season, the vast majority will have a dotted line under the 4th team respresenting the CL teams and another under the 5th team representing the EL team. the other 2 places are for the cups, and if the winners/finalists are already in europe they will go down to the next best placed league team.
-
Only problem with that is it sort of degrades the Europa league i.e. 'you have lost, you must endure the horrors of the EUROPA LEAGUE' sort of thing. just like us when we lost to partizan on pens? or everton when they lost to villareal in the 3rd qualifying round?
-
defo - either a one off game at the end of the season, or a one off game at start of the season. put it at wembley - will get a massive crowd, help pay for the costs etc, and most importantly as u say both team get a chance of CL football. chelsea get a chance to defend their title, while spurs dont miss out completely. you could also have made this a special 2nd qualifying 2 legged game (the round before spurs would have entered, had chelsea not have won it.

don't know if it has its own thread, but is anyone collecting he panini euro 2012 stickers?

He'll be linking up with blaszczykowski who plays with him at Dortmund. Both of them are Poland's most important players. It's difficult to gauge how well Poland will do given that they haven't played a competitive game for so long. Some of the friendly results look good, only lost two in their last nineteen games, although most of them have been at home and they've had a lot of draws. think they'll get through the groups but then germany or holland await. good minds...
-
"Błaszczykowski with Borussia Dortmund won the Bundesliga title for two seasons in a row in 2010–11 and 2011–12. He also won 2011–12 DFB-Pokal, providing two assists in the final 5–2 victory over Bayern Munich" step forward Jakub Błaszczykowski im really looking forward to this tournament now - my love for (general) footy seems to rise whenever the toon do well (helped during the last world cup). i always like to see a host nation do well, and as i dont particularly like ukraine (and they are in our group), i think i will 'adopt' poland as a second team. they have got a fair few decent individual players, but as they aint had any competitive games recently i cant really tell if they will gel when it matters. just realised, england have both host nations in their group for WC 2014 qualifying

Aleksander Kerzkhov at 40/1 isn't bad. http://www.oddschecker.com/football/internationals/euro-2012/top-goalscorer to be honest, i had never heard of him, but you can get 100/1 at coral. lewandowski has come down from 40 - 33/1 at coral (today), but is still 40s at ladbrokes, so i will prob put a few quid each way on him tomorrow. he is only 16/1 at bwin for some reason? massive difference in odds there
-
Robert Lewandowski (Poland) surprise top goalscorer? decent odds at ladbrokes and coral. They have a fairly straightforward group, although if they do progress they will likely face Germany or Holland in the quarters
