I don't think a new signing in time for the first day of pre season was too much to ask personally.

It wouldn't have been a pay as you play at any rate. It would have been a contract with significant bonus based on various factors. Obviously the basic rate before bonus would have been much less than his current deal though.

I think the 100k per week they were paying him was a factor as well. Wouldnt be thrilled with this signing but I understand the reasoning.
