Flogging a backup keeper for a premium wouldn’t be weakening them at all. It would allow them to strengthen further in other areas. Imagine if they used the money to get Osihmen for example. They signed Raya to be number 1.

If your going the route of upgrading you sell him in the summer. He is too good and has too much career left to be a number 2.

Ya reckon we would be looking to upgrade in the summer? Im so torn on this, pope has been so good for us but his limitations with the ball at his feet are an issue. Left back is another really interesting quandary I feel.

Problem is, if you replace pope then your hands are FFP tied for other areas of the pitch. I guess it’s a question of priorities and how close to FFP we reallly are.

Forgot to add the fourth option 4, sigh a ramsdale level keeper at what such a player would be valued at? (I consider this almost a side grade). Would anyone fancy that? Basically two keepers of roughly equal ability competing for the 1.

For the goal keeper situation how would you remedy it? 1, buy a new first choice keeper in January 2, Bring in someone to cover for Pope on a short term basis for a small outlay (loan, low fee or short term deal). 3, continue as we are In really curious to see how everyone would handle this.

Yeah, they couldn’t wait to get shot of him. but ultimately, we are in a rough spot, any bandaid solution is going to be worst than pope. The last thing we should do is pay good money for a keeper who is about as good as pope. We either get a better keeper or go with a bandaid. FFP doing its job as usual, we don’t have margin for error.

You mean our current position being 7th? I’m not sure it’s much of a cause for alarm. In fact judging from the documentary they were aware this was likely to happen. I’d be surprised if we bought anyone this January personally, at most I see the Gordon esque buy, some loans and some frees. Pretty sure we are at our squad limit as well, we’d have to shift some or be happy paying players who aren’t even registered.

Yeah we probably have to go for a temporary solution given it’s mid season and upgrading Pope at this point might be difficult. pretty sure Lloris turned us down in the summer though?

We aren’t going to be able to find an upgrade on Isak. I don’t expect the club to change much strategy wise either. We are kind of in the eye of the storm at the minute.

You’re missing the point, I’m not comparing them as managers and neither is @ponsaelius. We are stating the performance are akin to those of a Bruce side. I understand emotions are running high but let’s focus on the points being made and not ones which are made by other posters. nobody is calling for the manager to go or anything of that nature, just some concerns over the levels of performance these last few away games which is perfectly valid imo.

I don’t think it’s ridiculous at all, Bruce era was go away and roll over, you can definitely argue that’s what we’ve done in these last 3 games. And as I mentioned the context is crucial our players have very little in the tank but this doesn’t change the fact in our last 3 away games we’ve been well off it and second best by some distance as we were during the Bruce days.
