I think it's pretty uncontroversial to refer to Iask as world class whilst he played for us. I suspect, and hope, it was a case of right time right place with us and that he never reaches those heights again.

I think there's a little bit more to it than "was it on purpose" but I agree with the sentiment. Take for instance the situation where a player slides to try to block a cross but it hits a trailing hand. He hasn't "intentionally" blocked it with his hand but has put it hand in a position where it could block it and so for me that's a foul. The main issue for me is the punishment of penalty in the majority of handball cases doesn't fit the crime. I wonder if you could do something like indirect free kick instead with penalty reserved for serious offences.

This wenger thing is ridiculous as well. If we REALLY need VAR for offside then do it like this: VAR is shown a snapshot of the side on view. They have 5 seconds to adjudicate if it's offside following the same rule as a linesman - benefit of the doubt to attacker, only give if it's obviously offside.

Finally got round to watching the highlights of this. Getting a bit repetitive saying this but our GK gifts them a goal whereas theirs pulls off a world class save. I'd be putting in Ramsdale at this point tbh. He's not the answer but Pope is done.

I agree with basically everything you have to say on the subject but do have a hypothetical for you. A number of us were on board with just letting Isak sit in the reserves. How do you think the season looks now if we do that and don't spend £100m on Elanga and Wissa? (I know, we signed Elanga quite early but still an interesting thought exercise imo)

Part of me reckons only the truly best of the best should be getting those types of wages. Anyone else gets that and you've basically hit the pinnacle and for many that's a lot of motivation gone.

Kelly's being pushed back as well BBC article reckons the ref actually could have overruled the yellow card there as he'd been sent to the monitor. Would have been class if that's what he did and VAR accidentally corrected a mistake whilst asking for a red.

Makes it all the more imperative we hire a manager who knows how to handle this many games.

The fact they're playing 40 games total this season I think is a big factor. Compared to the teams around them they'll be very well rested.

I don't put Pope at "fault" for the goal per se but looks at the Donnarumma save at the end. Yes yes things would play out differently etc but if Pope saves his shot and Donnarumma concedes then we're the ones who win 2-1.

To a point I agree with you but like with Ramsdale I feel like they're mainly just making saves you'd "expect" them to make and not so much the ones they "could have" saved. Not that neither of them have made good saves but I just feel like we've conceded a number of goals where our keepers haven't covered themselves in glory and it's a problem for us. The argument for Pope was that whilst his distribution was not great he made up for it in other areas. I'm finding him lacking in those other areas this season.
