Don't like to overhype games at this point of the season but this feels huge for top 4 and for confidence/morale going into a huge Feb. Usually respond well after stinkers tbf.

No idea how this bloke managed to acquire a reputation of being decent and likable.

I'm not denying the excellent job Emery has done at Villa, but if many of our fans were Villa fans they'd be panicking about why the manager needs late comebacks to beat bad teams, and their poor Conference League exit would have raised questions such as has he taken us as far as he can? Is he really elite?

A draw tomorrow guarantees top 7, even with a defeat top 7 (maybe even top 6) stays in our hands. Without that point, defeat tomorrow likely puts us out of Europe (and that's not to mention the point kept us ahead of Chelsea).

OK starting to get scared about this one. As disappointing as Saturday was, that 1 point has given us a pretty useful safety net here.

As someone who lives outside the NE, I can say that the vast majority of fans have no problem with Newcastle and don't give a monkeys one way or the other about Sunderland.

Agree with this. He's not at peak fitness don't get me wrong, but he was feeding off scraps all game. Thought he made some pretty clever and important contributions when we were seeing the game out.

Arguing VAR should have given this penalty as a clear and obvious error while also acknowledging it took a lot of time and different camera angles to spot it.

Our draw is fine but overall, that's another crap draw.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned Tim Krul. After his debut I thought he'd be a star, after 11/12 I thought he'd one day leave us to join an elite club.

Correct. Also, those 3 excellent performances post international break got too many people thinking we could keep on winning 2 games a week throughout December.

Think it might be worse with us tbh. We have some absolute saddos who have no life outside of supporting Newcastle who appoint themselves as 'hardcore' fans. Most of their arguments this season are stupid anyway. They hate the members ballot for reasons I can't understand - the people getting tickets are basically the same as last season when it was first come first serve. The 'poor' atmosphere is blamed on 'tourists' when it was regularly appalling during the Ashley years (when the stadium was full of 'hardcore' fans who stood by the club when times were rough).

Anyone else getting a bit annoyed this season at the superduperfans crying every week that the wrong people are going to games, they're singing the wrong songs, the members are to blame for poor results etc.

My honest opinion is that the CL will be over for us after this, but is a Newcastle win and a PSG draw unthinkable? Absolutely not.

I don't agree that Ederson is better unless you place too much value on a keeper's ability to kick a ball (which most people do tbf).

Even if he had lost these 2 games (2 games FFS - we were all buzzing this time last week) with a full strength squad, sacking him should be a million miles away from the minds of any half sensible fans.

I'm a proud Howe fanboy I know, but I don't really think he could have played things differently these past few weeks.

My view on this is the same as pretty much every home game right now. If our first 11 isn't totally knackered, we're strong favourites. An extra days rest and them going to Turkey is nice though.

The combination of ridiculously strict handball laws and VAR has essentially broken football. Too many games (especially in Europe) are decided by freak unavoidable accidents. We may as well award a team an automatic goal if an opposition defender slips over. Or every time someone scores we can toss a coin - heads they keep the goal, tails it's disallowed.

I'd like to see us rest Tripps if we can. Bound to be in the England squad and made to play 90 minutes at LB against Malta. I'd like to see Hall get another start, felt the ref ruined his night with a very soft yellow card.
