In tournaments you have to take a certain amount of risks. A fit Wilshire on form is by far and away more creative than any of our other cms (Alli apart who isn't quite as good on the ball in tight situations imo) so he has to go. It isn't about who's done more to 'deserve' it in the previous season, it's about who gives you the best chance in the tournament, as harsh as that is on those that miss out.

See Micah Richards, Phil Jones, possibly soon Stones? It's one of those positions that for all the physical attributes or technique on the ball in the world, it's what's between the ears which is most important.

Why should England actually have real options to influence games, to try and win the tournament? Surely it's better to placate the pundits and media in order to avoid criticism for leaving out the household names. I honestly had hope for Hodgson. Hope he does well but with that selection he's looking at an early exit imo. Possibly even in the group stage. Which household names do you think he should've left out?

I would have taken Townsend fwiw but don't think Milner going is a bad thing, he's a solid player in several positions. He's not going to produce some 'magic' but you can't base all your criteria of who to take on that.
