Newcastle United vs Wolves - 17/09/16 @ 15.00 - Pre Match Thread

Anyone think we'll see Gayle and Mitrovic start together, anytime soon? If we're comfortable after the first half, or indeed chasing the game/the formation isn't clicking today, it would be a good time to try it; I'm just really keen to see how it may work. -

It's now part of my every day language to pronounce club as cloob now. At the weekend I noticed - "Aye, I'll be going up the cloosb after this pint". Aye, but have you been influenced byRafa? Inspector Clouseau? Or are you just from Ashington?? Surely Ashington is clerb? Not if you grab them by the balls, squeeze, and threaten to put them in a 'korma' -

If we're not really careful, we might just end-up with a top-class central midfield pairing... (no I don't think "wor" Jack is the other one)
-
He might not cut the mustard.

Tbh I'm a bit nonplussed trying to think of what the 'disinterested in Sunderland' members of this forum expect to find in our thread (note the singular) about Sunderland...

f***ing hell. You're actually just a bairn by comparison. I always had you down as being in your 50s now. Whoops. how did you get 50's? Born in 76, maybe it's the three kids that gave aged me. Let your eyes drift left TM (not my avatar yours, man ), suspect that may have helped...

Straw man argument. How can you claim to know what the majority of the hundreds of thousands Newcastle fans think, or the tens of thousands who regularly attend matches. Where does the strength of your conviction in this idea come from? What makes you so sure it's true? Being accepting of the situation as is, and not living-out some fucking 1960s-esque, militant protest fantasy, isn't the same as resignation to this is how it will always be/ it's a result to finish 14th. Really fucks me off how some seem to find it good sport to have self-righteous pot shots at the 'paying clientele'. Where's your balance, humility and sense of camaraderie? Is that just for the placard wavers: "Down with this...oh it is down... Down with that then!"

We were a second tier team for around a third of Westwood's reign. Also when we were relegated in that era (twice) we stayed down: four seasons and then six seasons, in division 2. The latter stint going beyond Westwood's reign. Is this Ashley's tenth season??(kin hell) thus far he's overseen 2 of these in the lower tier (and counting). Despite all their pomp and self-importance, people like Westwood and McKeag (both of their father's had also been chairman, I think) were incredibly small time compared to Ashley. Did Westwood not step down in the (early 80s) because he wasn't able/willing to stump-up £20k towards a transfer kitty? So two relegations looks bad, as does so much else about what has happened to us in the last decade, but I'm actually quite glad we're no longer a two penny-halfpenny club run by snobby locally-born silver-spoons/posh-boys. A Hall or Shepherd type is probably best ( or a UAE oil billionaire with good values!) but it has been worse.

Wilshere to AFCB!! ;D

I think getting rid of 'want aways' and 'under performers' actually makes us a better TEAM. Albeit with the loss of a few individual players who on their day could arguably be a level above what we have in their place (I'd include Wijnaldum and Townsend in this as well as Sissoko). A team isn't necessarily weaker because they lose a player capable of making a greater 'potential' contribution than his replacement. Would you prefer £10k five times a year? Or £7k 10 times a year? A team, apologies if this seems obvious but some people seem to be missing the point, is more than the sum of its parts and not about having the best 11 individual players on the pitch, irrespective of whether they fit the system/there is a system can be found that fits them. In all likelihood we will get promoted this season; in all likelihood we will also play some pretty functional unattractive football at times. Welcome to NUFC with a winning mentality and some fucking nous about team construction and management. Hope we can all get some enjoyment out of it, God knows we deserve to.

Rafa's building a real 'team', MS was never going to be a part of it, for a variety of reasons. £30m is a fantastic result all round. By January we will hopefully be a more attractive prospect for people like Knockaert with a view to building for the charge towards the Premiership and for the season beyond. This is a good day for NUFC.
-
I know we (mostly) have a somewhat tainted view of Sissoko, but everything surrounding the bloke just smacks of a valueless mercenary. Adieu.
-
Played an absolute blinder here lads. £30m for Sissoko, terms agreed by clubs and player. OMG. We could just let Tiote and any other 'want aways' walk now. What a result!
-
Put him and Tiote in the reserves, until they show some willingness and commitment. Hate greedy bastard players and the parasitic self-serving agents advising this thick young men.
