Really poor result, I hope Howe remembers this performance when summer arrives. We really need to be ruthless with the majority of this squad.

I really don't see the value in Henderson and especially at a figure of £20m, a very limited upgrade on Dubravka, if at all.

Big wake up call that the majority of the squad just aren't good enough. -
Think we only need a win and a draw to guarantee safety. All depends on Watford / Burnley’s form though.

I’ve been reluctant to buy into a discourse around agendas against Newcastle because most of the time it makes us look paranoid and overly sensitive. However, in this case it really is reflective of a blatant media agenda. Tuchel less than a month ago dedicated the club World Cup win to Roman - All very good trying to play down your association to him now he has no control over the club. Tuchel has also had nothing but praise for Qatar when he was PSG coach: Conveniently forgotten by most major media outlets. There’s no consistency at all on this.

I've been struggling with this more have to admit, there's always the gnawing feeling that everything comes with a caveat. I will say that due to the nature of football's tribalism, it has produced and will continue to produce rhetoric that is profoundly insincere on the topic. Be it our fans who seem obliged to defend the Saudi justice system, despite (likely) having no interest and any genuine belief in what they're saying, or fans from other clubs that have now suddenly developed a forensic interest in Saudi transgressions since we became the richest club in the world. I envisage the majority of fans from other clubs would no doubt have had a some passive-like opposition to Saudi crimes and lack of conformity to western freedoms before we were taken over, yet now post-takeover, that lens has widened and magnified, likely because their opposition now needs to be real and immediate, because it threatens the status of the clubs they support. I think that's to be expected. What is difficult to understand and what provokes a natural tribalistic streak in me personally, is the apparent double-standards of the media, who have effectively normalized this scenario through years of covering Chelsea and Man City's successes with very little introspection. The latter has had some, but the overriding cultural touchstones that the media immortalized in the public's conscious remain Aguero's winner, Pep's style of football, than anything else. Even a cursory look at any Chelsea - Newcastle match report from the last decade or so, seems to completely omit Abramovich's influence on why the fixture was so hopelessly imbalanced on the pitch (for the most part). There's was no genuine will to examine it, until now, when a recently transformed geopolitical context demands it.

Need to perhaps a touch strong, we're all but certain to be safe if we avoid defeat however. Nonetheless, I would certainly hope that even if we lost against Everton, we could get a win against either Palace, Wolves, Leicester at home or Norwich away. Would be a bit more relaxed if Watford didn't win today truth be told!

Watford have a fairly kind fixture list but they're a very difficult team to gauge. I think if Everton don't beat us on Thursday, they'll be going down. We need another win to make sure, hopefully will get that soon enough.
-
A loss in that matter hurts like hell, but going to try and list the positives. - Incredibly spirited performance against the current world champions, with a number of key players out or not fully fit - No real hit on the goal difference - One of the toughest fixtures out the way - Our overriding objective was just to stay up, the gap is now at 9 points, but effectively 10 given the disparity in g/d and as mentioned, Chelsea out the way - The players will hopefully be seething with that and will be well up for Everton game.

Looking at their remaining fixtures, Everton will be going down if they don’t beat us here. I’m not particularly confident for this for some reason. -

Judging by that team, think we’ll get absolutely hammered. Guess it doesn’t matter too much, since this game is practically a free hit. -

Vital win today -
If Liverpool salvage something and other results stay the same, this has still been a good day. Not realistic that every result goes our way each week.

Very happy that he's proving me wrong after a slow start, long may it continue. The Willock post-match interview was excellent as well, suggests that he has a great level of respect from the squad.

One of those games, been a few times where the ball just isn’t falling to us in the box after little deflections. -
If we hopefully stay up, there’s a few names that come to mind, but also depends on how successful we are at shifting players on. Brennan Johnson (if Forest don’t get promoted) Botman (be surprised if he doesn’t go to Milan regardless) Brereton Diaz (contract expires this summer) Sarr (if Watford go down) Puig (contract expires 2023) Belotti (contract expires this summer) Marcus Thuram (contract expires 2023)

Ritchie is utter crap, he’s worthless in every position at this level now. Who cares where he can supposedly cover?
-
Massively disagree with Howe on this mind, surely Ritchie would be the one you’d drop.
-
Hoping we go in for Origi or Minamino
-
We have to go in for Origi like, yeah we’re going to get rinsed. But we need a mobile striker that can get in behind a defense. Don’t think we’ll see the best of Bruno if we’re having Wood and Wilson as our options every game.

Would be very happy with Ashworth. There was a lot of talk of Overmars when we were first taken over, guess those talks never went anywhere.
