  1. If Norwich get beat and we contrive to beat Villa tomorrow, I'll be very confident in staying up.
  2. No Beardsley in there shocking. Plus I'd perhaps go David Craig over Barton. Milburn and Shearer is tough to argue with, but Hughie Gallacher probably should have a chance of getting in there. I know football was utterly different in the 1920s but his scoring rate for us is an absolute joke: 143 goals in 174 appearances ffs. Also Supermac deserves a mention as he was class and my dad's first hero. Colin Veitch too and the defenders of his era such as Hudspeth, McCraken deserve a mention, they had to change the offside rule because they were so good at offside traps and keeping clean sheets because of how good they were. From the Guardian: Plus, was Albert even that good as a defender? People tend to opt for Woodgate or Coloccini.
  3. Proper cursed lineups this lad posts. Like the demons you see in the corner of your bedroom when you've got sleep paralysis.
  4. He plays an effective, if not glamorous, role in the side. He allows Willock, ASM and Fraser to get next to and beyond him and into the box. Which in turn allows more goal scoring opportunities for the team thus the chances we had second half at Leeds and on Tuesday night.
  5. The share issue in '91 was attempted for part fan ownership but also it was mainly to service the club's debts. McKeag et al though were still present at the club and the fans didn't trust him or the non-Magpie Group members of the board so hardly anyone bought any, hence why McKeag sold his stake to Hall during 1991-92. The failure of it wasn't necessarily Hall's fault but it was a blessing in disguise. Also am happy to be shown but I haven't seen him defend Ashley on the record. Either way Hall's legacy at NUFC is still all here to be seen and him selling to Ashley doesn't change that.
  6. Disagree with that, like. Without Hall there would've been no Keegan and/or likely no NUFC. Given that he launched a battle against McKeag and the previous board as far back as 1988, eventually took over after the failure of the share issue in 1991 with the debts and frosty relationship the club had with NCC due to the state of SJP post Taylor Report, to give Hall no credit for where the club went and where it is now is wide of the mark for me. Granted, he was a Thatcher supporting Tory and did sell the club to Ashley but his role in the club's history and his legacy are still there to be seen and can't be denied. Hall put the club on the map by fighting to democratise it, eventually taking over and appointing Keegan, reneging on his reluctance on the Kilcline deal to bring him back as he knew there they were the only two people who could save NUFC, as he said to Keegan on the phone.
  7. We've got 3 wins on the board and you more often than not need 9 or 10 for safety. Never this simple like but from our remaining games we should be looking to win; Villa (h) Brentford (a) Brighton (h) Palace (h) Leicester (h) Norwich (a) Burnley (a) I'd fancy us at home against most sides tbh, such as the games I've excluded against Wolves and Arsenal. West Ham we have a decent record away at and we played well against them on the opening day for ≥45 minutes but fell away after an hour due to a bollocks pen they got and the Bruce inspired lack of fitness.
  8. He has an Instagram account for his dogs. https://www.instagram.com/ragnarmel39/
  9. Town Wall is great but has been heaving when I've been in for the Brentford and Man Utd games. Thought they've not enough staff for matchday demand. Cracking pub mind.
  10. Yeah, if Bruno were to come in I'd bring him in for Shelvey but I do have to admit I've liked Shelvey in that role in front of the back 4 under Howe in spite of his rashness. Howe has thus far gotten more work rate out of Shelvey since coming in. Tbh though, I can't see us changing the lineup from last night providing we haven't got any injuries.
  11. Any from the following are good The Bodega The Forth The Town Wall The Bacchus The Hotspur Tilley's Plenty more. All will be open for matchdays, likely open anywhere between 11 and noon.
  12. If we're bringing Burn in I'd drop Schar. Tbh I thought he was quite poor last night. Lascelles made one mistake when he let the ball bounce outside our box and gave away a free kick but everything else he did was spot on, couldn't do anything about the own goal. Schar though he was making me panic anytime the ball went near him, seemed half asleep or switched off when there was a loose ball in our half or a blue shirt starting to press him.
  13. A Palace win tonight would be ideal.
  14. He did, main ones that were documented were that he went to Atlético Madrid to watch Simeone work and went to Rayo Vallecano to watch Andoni Iraola work, who has got a very small club in Madrid back to La Liga, currently in the top half and in the semi final of the Copa del Rey.
  15. He's looked poor, can't be denied. However, it is only 3 games which we've picked 7 points up in. He wins a fair few headers but there's often no one on the end of them. It'll take time for him to adjust from 4-4-2 Dycheball to what Howe's trying to implement. Hasn't looked good but not writing him off just yet. Think once he gets one he'll look a lot more threatening in front of goal.
  16. Hopefully this isn't a jinx *touch wood* and it is largely irrelevant but Villa's record up here is dismal. 2020/21 Drew 1-1 Lascelles 2019/20 Drew 1-1 Gayle 2016/17 Won 2-0 Gouffran, og(Lansbury) 2015/16 Drew 1-1 Coloccini 2014/15 Won 1-0 Cisse 2013/14 Won 1-0 Remy 2012/13 Drew 1-1 Ben Arfa 2011/12 Won 2-1 Ba, Cisse 2010/11 Won 6-0 Barton, Nolan 2, Carroll 3 2008/09 Won 2-0 Martins 2 2007/08 Drew 0-0 2006/07 Won 3-1 Milner, Dyer, Sibierski 2005/06 Drew 1-1 Shearer (pen) 2004/05 Lost 0-3 2003/04 Drew 1-1 Robert 2002/03 Drew 1-1 Solano 2001/02 Won 3-0 Bellamy 2, Shearer 2000/01 Won 3-1 Glass, Cort, OG 2000/01 Drew 1-1 Solano (FAC) 1999/00 Lost 0-1 1998/99 Won 2-1 Shearer, Ketsbaia 1997/98 Won 1-0 Beresford 1996/97 Won 4-3 Ferdinand 2, Shearer, Howey 1995/96 Won 1-0 Ferdinand 1994/95 Won 3-1 Beardsley 2, Venison 1993/94 Won 5-1 Beardsley 2, Sellars, Bracewell, Cole. Both of those losses were when we had men sent off. 3 sent off in 04/05 ( ) and Shearer sent off wrongly in 99/00. Last time they won up here in a game that finishes 11 v 11 was in 1989. Anyway, some old timeys.

    Joelinton

He was good between both boxes but I actually thought that was his poorest performance under Howe. Not that that's a bad thing because he's been a revelation since Howe's first game v Brentford.
  18. I actually thought Trippier was MOTM but he was simply outstanding. Genuinely think he loves it here and will stay for the bulk of his career thanks to the takeover. If we stay up that is. Phenomenal natural ability and talent. Love him to bits.
  19. I've trusted him since he walked into the club tbh. That's down to the fact that I've always rated him very highly and that given we've seen his work ethic now that he's at NUFC. You can tell he's grafting his absolute bollocks off to make this work and keep us up and the wrong decisions he may have made up to now were always for the right reasons. I was disappointed not to see Bruno start and posted that it was a huge call that deserved criticism were it to backfire but it didn't. We've won 2 games we absolutely had to and have been perilously close in many of the games vs the non top 6. Even then we were fully worthy of 3 points v Man Utd.
  20. He's improved us in nigh on every regard and will only continue to do so. Some beyond rancid patter in the pre match thread.
  21. Back up for this one. Win it and I'm confident we'll stay up.
