Non-Geordies, why do you support Newcastle United?
Coffee_Johnny replied to HawK's topic in Football
We might need your help in the Schar thread SM. We’re crying out for a decent Swiss-themed song. -
I get your theory, we didn’t have enough winners/believe we could do it etc., but the facts of the matter are we would have won the league (all other things being the same) if we had beaten Man Utd at home; check the eventual points total. We didn’t deserve to win away, but we were definitely the better side at home. To my mind a more one sided game than the 5-0 the following season.

Allan Saint-Maximin (now playing for Fenerbahce, on loan from Al-Ahli)

He would be almost unplayable. Most good players tend to only be exceptional at dribbling or passing though. Tough ask hoping for a Ben Arfa-Nobby Solano (or Bruno Guimaraes) hybrid. Latter two are, I think, players I have most enjoyed watching pick out, and execute, awesome long and short passes. -
A worthy five shits post. Impressive ?

That’s so lovely of Eddie and triggers a nice memory of my son playing (under 8’s) in front of Guardiola on his unveiling at City. Lost interest a bit in football but still has signed shirt/beaming smiley picture on his wall.

Yep, massacred them 0-1, so we should be bemoaning Peter fucking Schemical (spelling will do) rather than our players.
-
Hearing you there bruvver, wasn’t just your opinion at the time. Used to be ‘mass debating’ of this issue (…will the pain ever totally go?) from those who, well, masterbated about Batty—who, to be fair, rarely seemed to put a foot wrong— and those (myself included) who thought he was like a quagmire in midfield, the ball seemed to stick there, which slowed our attack down massively.

For those of you old enough to remember ‘Heidi in the mountains’ on telly in late 1970’s (based on a famous Swiss fictional ‘goat herder’ character) who used to to say ‘Oopla grandfather!’ (Sounded like that anyway) how about a chant like: ? Harder than The Matterhorn More beautiful by far Oopla! Oopla! Fabian Schar ?

I’d prefer another Bruno, and the fluid flexible midfield it would offer, but I’d take that Alvarez dude from Ajax in a heart beat.

The Europeometer™ (2024/25) - NUFC Qualify for Champions League

Good plan, I understand that a three times Premier League winner, plus 4 FA Cup, two League cups, Champions League, Europa, and Intertoto winning OBE awarded thoroughbred will be set free from Everton soon. -
Just back from illness to be fair. And early days there, so probably unlikely to be dropped into the melee of an Edinburgh derby.

Thanks for reassurance/correcting my superstitious thinking IP (…he says says before removing his right slipper and taking his shirt off, before mounting the stairs and hopping up them for a shower ?).
-
Is he any good? Not against bargain basement shopping, couldn’t care less about where from.

Dawns on me, my purchase of Miggy pretty much coincided with his relative ‘drought’. I can only apologise.

You’re bang on. They’ve played more together than I recalled, 13 games. Two this season (Southampton away win and Palace 3rd round cup win). Interesting looking at who he’s played with and who has played with who! https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonjo-shelvey/gemeinsamespiele/spieler/71292
-
Yep, that’s what I meant. Not sure myself that is the reason Longstaff is playing. I wouldn’t mind seeing how Shelvey and Bruno might work—assume Bruno would move to 8 role— for a few games at least, but guessing JJ is seen now as cover for Bruno in the main.
-
Do you think Shelvey would play as well as Bruno?

Whether they consciously phone it in or not, it already looks like they both have been at times, there will likely come a point when it is clear that this season is a write off—particularly for Chelsea. -
Chronicle pushing the Fresneda links; now he is someone who we do need now (for Trippier cover) and could be a first class/elite right back of the future.
-
Why would we? Schar cover? Or show the Netherlands how much better Botman is?
