Read through The Fighting Cock match thread. Spurs fans seem very dissatisfied with the way they’re playing (boring overly defensive formation and lack of heart) and very pessimistic about winning (bizarrely). Pretty much all of us and all of them are expecting to lose, or achieve a draw at best. Football fans: we can be a strange bunch.

Pre-match nerves are pretty commonplace. Don’t think it is about the quality of the opposition, just the anxiety about the team doing what we know they can. Hoping against a (let’s face it, not too uncommon in the trials and tribulations of a football fan) failure to turn up or have an unlucky break. FWIW, I think it’ll be a tight game. Everton aren’t likely to go all guns blazing. They’ll sit back and be difficult to break down. First goal is important (as ever) but even if they score first (only one mind!) I’d still fancy us to win.

Horrendous path to ‘easy glory’! Recall thinking we were really unlucky that when we finally reached two FA Cup finals, we played the best team in the country. Need a bit of luck in the cup: draw and/or exceptional performances on the day(s).

Citeh love a league cup win. I thought/misremembered that it was their first trophy of the new era, but just checked and seems the FA Cup in 2011 was their first recent trophy— first since they beat us in the 1976 League Cup final—achieved three years after their August 2008 takeover. The League Cup is the easiest major trophy to win. 5 games, for the teams in Europe. It is only 6 for the rest of the Premier League, though so is the FA Cup. Regardless of the strength of the team put out, they’re obviously much more ‘doable’ than the probability of coming out on top after the relentless slog of the 38 Premier League games.
