  1. Someone just prompted me to have a search for info on the real Coffee Johnny, I was shocked to find an actual photograph. Given how linked the Blaydon Races is with NUFC, thought others might be interested:
  2. 6’5” Winlaton blacksmith. Who reportedly wouldn’t leave the house in the morning without a big tankard of coffee. I can identify ?; never heard anything re his ethnicity.
  3. I was still a twinkle in my dad’s eye, obvs, but totally agree; and still had an underage pint or two ?
  4. He turns 30 this year. Lad’s a raging tool and displaying it to all and sundry.
  5. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geordie_lamp here’s some blurb. Better than reading about life underground than the other dark place!
  6. Davy lamp was used most widely. I believe the Stephenson lamp was favoured in the bowels of God’s country.
  7. Here’s Pedro’s peach. Goals from Keegan, Waddle and the absolute beauty by Beardsley. Worth watching the highlights of what was Keegan’s last competitive game.
  8. I recall reading in some sociological ‘theory’ about derogatory terms that ‘Geordie’ when not used as a nickname for George, was used in the North East coalfields to refer to someone not very bright (play on ‘the Geordie’ a safety lamp invented by George Stephenson).
  9. Was it this Pancrate goal vs Watford? Just watched the others the best bit about Gazza’s goal at Blackpool was he’s had about four good chances prior and it sealed the comeback 4-2 on aggregate pushing it beyond Blackpool (we’d been 0-2 down). The scenes!
  10. Great memories triggered by the McGhee and Gazza goals! Was there for both (friend of family, also a Newcastle fan, was playing for Bradford at the time which added to the post match banter). The whole Mirandinha circus (in our youthful days deciding we’d go all Brazillian by wearing grass skirts and somberos!) surrounding that cup game made it a cracking day out. Didn’t see/can’t recall the other two. Off to search for all! ?
  11. Or at least sell off the tickets, particularly the single seats, to all comers after a reasonable time on offer.
  12. Give me fucking strength…
  13. Vaginismus, Virginius ….
  14. Have we been linked with someone called Vaginismus?
  15. Is it a synonym for Greggs sandwich bag?
  16. Beautiful! If you like stout seek out a pint of Cushy Butterfield. Is there anyone called Porter we can sign?
  17. I recall a ‘cheeky little rascal’ of a builder turning up to work on the Milburn stand in a red & white top on the first day Bobby Robson arrived at the club. He (somewhat sensibly on the roof…) was met with about fifty sets of keys being waved in his direction ?
  18. Pages and pages of Financial Times stylee speculation… we so need a signing.
  19. Having a sore toe blocking the memory of what it’s like to be in traction!
  20. Had a pint of Cushy Butterfield on Sunday. It’s a yes from me!
  21. Osimhen, Paqueta, Wijnaldum on loan.
  22. Last night’s game was a tough watch re Wood, I think the excitement of a high-paced close match against good opponents, and European night game feel, was the last straw/has made me run out patience with him. Really hope I am wrong, but just can’t see him being an asset for where are now or where we want to be at the end of this season. I should add that my first favourite Newcastle player was Alan Gowling, so it’s not that I can’t appreciate a less skilful, more workman like, centre forward.
  23. I waited for an age outside the Quilted Camel, placard at the ready, on Saturday and not a soul turned up. There were a few furrowed brows around, but possibly just hangover related. Beginning to doubt the whole new panic-stations-protest movement ?‍♂️
  24. No Joelinton or Shelvey for Atalanta. Might, depending upon how it goes, prompt a bit of reconsideration of the need for another CM.
