Someone just prompted me to have a search for info on the real Coffee Johnny, I was shocked to find an actual photograph. Given how linked the Blaydon Races is with NUFC, thought others might be interested:

6’5” Winlaton blacksmith. Who reportedly wouldn’t leave the house in the morning without a big tankard of coffee. I can identify ?; never heard anything re his ethnicity.

I was still a twinkle in my dad’s eye, obvs, but totally agree; and still had an underage pint or two ?

Great memories triggered by the McGhee and Gazza goals! Was there for both (friend of family, also a Newcastle fan, was playing for Bradford at the time which added to the post match banter). The whole Mirandinha circus (in our youthful days deciding we’d go all Brazillian by wearing grass skirts and somberos!) surrounding that cup game made it a cracking day out. Didn’t see/can’t recall the other two. Off to search for all! ?

Last night’s game was a tough watch re Wood, I think the excitement of a high-paced close match against good opponents, and European night game feel, was the last straw/has made me run out patience with him. Really hope I am wrong, but just can’t see him being an asset for where are now or where we want to be at the end of this season. I should add that my first favourite Newcastle player was Alan Gowling, so it’s not that I can’t appreciate a less skilful, more workman like, centre forward.

I waited for an age outside the Quilted Camel, placard at the ready, on Saturday and not a soul turned up. There were a few furrowed brows around, but possibly just hangover related. Beginning to doubt the whole new panic-stations-protest movement ?‍♂️
