He’d previously been carrying a bit of a groin strain/issue apparently. When he was off key for a bit, on the bench or not in the squad. Presumably this is a recurrence or full expression of whatever was going on.

We/he could but I don’t think that is playing to his strengths. When he is on it, and when Bruno is also, I can’t imagine many midfields/teams coping with them playing a more generic box to box role (bar Barca who were outrageously good in the middle).

We definitely did. We’d be having a different season if we had picked up Mbeumo and Ekitike. Both were top of the relevant list as, I think, Guehi was. Whilst we fell on our feet with Thiaw, we have to play with what we have/could get in other positions. That said, plenty of others we were in for/looking at haven’t exactly set the league on fire.

I would love us to move them both (Bruno and Tonali) up as a CM pairing. With the same brief, doing the same stuff (more or less) with an out and out defensive ‘mediano’ sitting behind them. A Makélélé type (actually Batty would be a better example) who could fill in the gaps when they broke forward.

In Eddie's debut half-season here, he achieved an unprecedented 27 more points than, in the main, the same team had managed in the first 19 games. If we manage to achieve our recent average points total for the second half of the season then we'll be there or thereabouts Europe wise. An average 'Howe' second 19 games would give us 60 points; which in 2025-26 may give us a higher position than in 2023-24, given how tight things have been towards the top-end this time around. Still think we'd need to do better than this to feel confident of, say a 6th place finish. But probably only by a point or two. So we have 7 points from the first four games (of 19). Continuing even this kind of recent form for the remaining 15 would give us 33 points from the 'second 19'. Basically, we're not too far away. Regardless of how things go in the next league game, we can still do this.

No disrespect intended to any of our other defenders (or goalkeepers) but at 100% a Botman Thiaw partnership flanked by Livramento and Hall looks like sufficient quality for a title winning defence; if we can keep them together for the next couple of seasons. We would ‘just’ need an absolute worldy keeper to complete the picture .

Was more thinking there were a lot of people who thought we had signed, consults technical coaching manual, a right knacker in the first season he was with us. Yet he had a phenomenal second season.
