Newcastle United 3-2 Qarabağ FK (24/02/26) | post-match from pg. 32

Don’t really want you to feel more cheated, mate, but the coverage on Prime was top class. Best pre match I had watched. Not just as it was actually about the game! Good interviews (Wor Fans, Hopkinson etc) good pundits and some interesting angles taken re where we are as a club, where we going, and what qualification means. -
Alreet then. I’m in; let’s do that!

Aye, but Anglo Italian is probably all they would reference.

Forget about plodders like Quinn and Rosler scoring, what a joy to watch Kinkladze, Ginola and Albert again. Wondrous football.

We will beat them next time. Feel the karma tide turning! -
After the great win midweek, thought I would have a look at how our current glorious leader, who is second best behind Keegan in terms of overall league performance (points per game wise), compares to Keegan, Daglish, and Robson in terms of performances in cup games. The first hidden section gives an overview, the second gives a breakdown by cup competition. I have left out the 6 Anglo Italian games (W1 D3 L2) in Keegan's first season--as it was a competition for second tier sides only--but included League Cup and FA cup games for his team that one season in the old First Division/Championship. I have included Champions League and UEFA league games, as relevant, for all managers. I have used 'games' rather than ties as the rules around replays have changed. Questions (from these four): 1. Who has managed the most cup games? 2. Who has won the most cup games? 3. Whose team has scored the most cup goals? 4. Which manager has the best goal difference? 5. Which manager has the best win percentage? See how many you got right. Overview and answers: Breakdown by competition:

Not offensive at all 😉

He’d defo be in my NUFC 5 aside team.

Actually, perfectly happy for Nick to do it. Just someone, for the love of God, do it!!
-
But can he do it in Manchester on a cold wet Saturday night? (Please do it Gordy, lad).

I still fondly remember my first pair. Winfield, Woolies special, screw-in orange studs and the little placka tool to adjust them

But I mean, two of those away wins were Qarabağ and Spurs the former must be the least worst team because Spurs are so shite that a couple of seasons ago we were 5-0 up after twenty minutes; took a full 45 minutes to reach that with Qarabag. The other knackers we scraped past were Villa. Who presumably must also be League One standard. And don’t forget actual contradictory information doesn’t deserve to be wheeled out if it tarnishes the perception we can’t score, we can’t win away and Howe is clearly clueless. Three wins away on the bounce, with 11 goals scored, carrying high levels of injuries, against teams: (1) comfortably in 3rd place in the PL & 2nd in the Europa League (winning 7 out of 8 matches); (2) who automatically qualified to the knockout phase of the CL and drew at SJP; (3) who achieved three wins and draw in the CL gaining more points than Benfica, Marseille, PSV and Napoli (plus 10 others). Such facts have no place when reflecting on our current reality. More heat less light please Mr Interpolic!

Maybe a Volvo Sport (1956-57) is a dated, undoubtedly niche, but apt analogy. Looks like a solid Volvo, is also a beautiful convertible sports car, but it actually has a fibreglass body. “Known for body stiffness, leaks, and generally poor build quality, leading to production termination.” Terminator to early termination 🤷♂️

Unlikely as Howe name checked him, as one of ours to watch in his pre match presser (and joked that he wasn’t giving anything away as he was out only fit right back). Also mentioned Tonali.

Currently ‘typing from’ Chorlton-cum-Hardy… ….which everyone just calls Chorlton, despite there being another Chorlton in Manchester (Chorlton on Medlock).

We’re, as in Eddie’s NUFC, 3-1 down in cup games against them. Or 2-1 down in cup ties. Yes, latter sounds better. Let’s pull level! -
Yaya Toure is 6’3”. Not Zidane levels, but not far off on his day. Was unplayable in his Man City peak.

Is it too late for a career change?
