Took a snide blow on way into ground and had to use the gear lock to fend off some big baldy cnut after the match. Can laugh about it now but in all my years home and away never seen anything like it, running battles all over after match. We were at that one. Won 4-0 I remember. Atmosphere was hostile from the moment we arrived. We were driving around looking for the ground (it was the old Victoria Ground not the one they have now) and wound the window down to ask a couple of lasses where the ground was. "f*** off you Geordie b******s" came the response and we knew from then on it was going to be one of those nights. Finally found somewhere to park and went for a drink. No Newcastle fans allowed anywhere. Headed to a burger van instead. My mate bought a burger and didn't even get to take a bite of it when a Stoke fan walked up to him and knocked it straight out of his hands. Headed to the ground after that. Remember being funneled down an alleyway separated by a mesh fence. Stoke fans on the other side trying to climb over it to get to us. Finally got into the ground and it was the most intimidating atmosphere I've experience in over 35 years of watching NUFC. Came out the ground afterwards and you knew what was coming. We got chatting to a QPR fan who had travelled up from London especially to watch Les Ferdinand. Next thing we knew about 50 Stoke fans came charging over and started laying into the 5 of us. Somehow we managed to fight them off and ran back down towards the direction we'd came from. This meant trying to dodge punches and kicks from oncoming home fans though. Finally got to relative safety and witnessed a Newcastle minibus being turned over onto its side. We were then given our own personal police escort back to Stoke covered in blood and ripped clothes. Not a very pleasant journey home! Never been back to Stoke since. The stoke side of that story was that some young lass had been assaulted by geordies prior to the match, they then set out to seek revenge, course it was complete bollocks. It was the most orchestrated attack I’ve seen in my time following us. Cracking performance by the lads though Ginola, Ferdinand and Pedro destroyed them that night. We had to stop off at services on M6 coming out of stoke, the petrol pumps were all off and the forecourt was choca with mags, next thing the team bus comes in, Pedro, Clarky and the King were all in the shop, Pedro was literally grabbing every chocolate bar in the fucking place. Anyway got to shake all their hands sporting the biggest shiner in my fucking life, great memories from an era I don’t think we’ll ever see repeated.

More feisty than the likes of West Brom, Derby or Wolves round Filbert Street back in the 70s/80s. Yeah the year we stopped up under Keegan on the last day was mental. If I remember rightly that lad had his eye put out when they invaded the pitch. Crazy times but what a buzz away days used to be back then.

Always enjoyed our battles with this lot though had many dodgy moments down there over the years, incidents at the Scarborough and Peacock pubs spring to mind. Lads of a certain age have no love for this lot, and younger fans will soon learn they still have a large element. Like I’ve said not in our league, but they do have a very passionate hardcore support.

Back when Leeds were a big side, not many sides were getting more than 40k average crowds. They've been out of the top flight for 16 years. C’mon Elland Road held 40k when they were riding high and in champions league. I remember year after they won league, they played Norwich at home and there were rows of empty blue seats in their brand new east stand. They’re up there with the best away support wise, but Leeds is not a football city on par with Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle.

At the end of the day KSA banning beIN will not be the reason that the takeover is knocked back as it's not part of the remit for the O&D test. I agree it’s not but it clearly hasn’t helped. We seemed to have momentum when they were bringing in new piracy laws, and it appears to have been lost since decision to ban Bein.

Does anyone think yesterday was a rather bizarre day ? Yes we’ve had some shit days during this, however every journo just latched on to the next. First we had the baldy cockney cnut telling us exclusivity was over and Mauriss was in talks. Then we had Bird saying it’s stalled and the PL were standing by Bein. Quickly followed by Jacobs and Keys painting a bleak picture, and the Saudis decision to ban bein as the final nail. Three of the said journalists clearly have an agenda against this takeover and though Jacobs seems very clued up, there’s no doubting some of his info is coming from Bein. So as Caulkin has said today both sides are clearly contradicting each other, the buyers maintain it will happen and bein now seem confident it’ll be rejected. I’m really unsure where I’m at with this at minute, I’m leaning towards yesterday being Qatari spin and edwards having shit sources as proved throughout this. I think I’m still in but my main fear is the PL play the ultimate cnuts trick here and refuse to make decision. Can they do that who fucking knows if where all honest, but I would hope if they try this either Ashley or PIF take legal action, as surely this would be deemed a restraint of trade and unreasonable. Boy do we need some positive Saudi spin on this today. I’m still not out yet, the Qatari’s clearly have some info that makes them confident and yesterday’s headlines reflect what they’ve leaked out. Whilst the PL may be stalling on making a decision and be concerned with decision to ban bein, I’m still not convinced their going to outright reject this. Think we’ll see a lot more spinning before end of this week.

Unfortunately this, all parties especially the Saudis will want this swept away. Bein have definitely received some encouraging noises from the PL here, and it does feel as though the decision to ban them has not gone down well.

Jacobs always seems pretty clued up but I’m always wary due to bein connection. Must admit his tweet about 100 mp’s wanting to block the deal has me worried slightly. I’m unsure how he would have that information though and seems a bit far fetched. Confidence has certainly been knocked today, however I still don’t think we can be sure which way this heading just yet.
